I read this article this morning and found it to be such a horrible circumstance:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/5119455/driver-flicks-cigarette-burns-baby/
I am a smoker myself but I don't flick cigarettes out of car windows like this! A poor baby ended up burnt because of some idiot with a complete disregard for anyone around them. Why do you think they put ashtrays in cars??? For holding change only or something?? How would you deal with a situation like this one?

This is horrible James and people such as this should be given the sternest possible punishment. Firstly i do not like the idea of people drving and smoking for reasons such as this and the fact that they have one hand off the controls.
And then instead of using the ashtray if they throw the lighted butt out on the road with total disregard , i can think of a lot of things to be done to someone like this but the language will not be permissible here.
BTW could not see this go on without a response for so long. I'm sure al lot of your friends will respond as well.

I guess I would try to find out if there is law for that. if there is, then if it happens again I would report it. I wish it works like spit, when they litter like that it would go back into their car and burn them. that would've been fair...

I am sure there are laws in most places about things like this LittleMel; even if they are just littering related. It must be very hard to enforce these laws though because people are doing this while in a moving car. This was a horrible outcome and I wish they would make more noise about it so people that do it can really think long and hard from an angle other than littering. Thanks for the response.

Oh that is horrible that poor little baby! Don't know about other countries but here in OZ with all the Quit smoking that is going on now the silly thing that they have stopped putting ash trays in to cars when they are made now and that has been in for about years now, I'm not a smoker so that doesn't matter to me but there are alot of people that do smoke and with no ash tray what do they think people will do with the butt? of course out the window it will go!

It IS horrible msmell. I am an Australian myself but haven't been home for some years now. I never realized that they were removing ashtrays from cars being built though?? This is ridiculous actually and you are certainly right in what you have said and people will just flick their butts out of the window for sure now. Thanks for the response.

oh man thats very rare for something like that to happen. i'm sure he wasn't thinking about that happening. i've known people who did that but of course that didn't cross their mind. thats sad but i'm not mad at the person as it was accident. hopefully the person knows better next time or that would be stupid.

Best case scenario it's littering, worst case scenario something horrible like this or a bad fire can happen. They ought to fine people who are caught doing this and then if there's additional harm done other than littering, there ought to be much harsher penalties.

Everyone that does this KNOWS in the back of their mind that it's littering but how many would even consider that something like this could happen? Maybe if they were made more aware of cases like this a good number of them would stop doing it! I agree that there should be harsher penalties. It's tough to police though! Thanks for the response dawnald.

I cant imagine such a horrible thing to a small kid and In this context i can appreciate my govt who has recently taken a decision in prohibiting smoking in public places even at petty shop also. It has saved lot of passive smokers as well and sometimes may saves life also.
