I don't think so. I think that that is the date that the Mayan Calendar ends. Or something like that. The world will end in God's time. Of course, God may have December 21, 2012 as His plan. But we humans do not know. So, you never know. I just would not plan your life as if the world ends on that day. :)

Almost all people have this event completely incorrect. This date according to the Mayans is not the end of man and time but the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new era. The "Great Cycle", lasting 1,872,000 days and equivalent to 5,125.36 years, is but one fifth of the "Great Great Cycle", known scientifically as the Great Year or the Platonic Year - the length of the precession of the equinoxes. To use a metaphor from the modern industrial world, on Winter Solstice A.D. 2012 it is as if the Giant Odometer of Humanity on Earth hits 100,000 miles and all the cycles big and small turn over to begin anew. The present world age will end and a new world age will begin.
Over a year's time the Sun transits through the twelve houses of the zodiac. Many of us know this by what "Sun sign" is associated with our birthday. Upping the scale to the Platonic Year - the 26,000 year long cycle - we are shifting, astrologically, from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. The Mayan calendar does not really "end" in 2012, but rather, all the cycles turn over and start again, vibrating to a new era. It is as if humanity and the Earth will graduate in the eyes of the "Father Sun" and "Grandmother Milky Way."
How this will affect us in our everyday living is yet to be seen. Many believe that the super powerful and super wealthy have been preparing for this time and is known in their circles as the "New World Order." Much of this is evident today and has been accelerated greatly by the current leadership of the United States along with religious and industrial leaders around the globe.
These people are only interested in their own survival and is currently sacrificing the good of their people in the name of fear in order to secure their place in this new "Age." Unfortunately for the common man of the world, about 95% of us, we will be left uninformed and ill-equiped for what they believe will happen. That which will happen is anyone's guess.

Well for me that date is quite far away and I might accomplish enough by then, allowing me to say to myself "Well, I've reached my goals in this life, I don't care what happens from now on." Take advantage of every minute in your life and you won't regret it. But world endings and stuff have been predicted for thousands of years, and we're still here, alive and active. This will turn to be just another disappointment for Apocalypse fanatics.

hi
Let me inform you that I'm an Hindu and I rely on The Gita. So I must say that I don't think 21st Dec 2012 is the last day for the this world.
If so there would be a mention of such thing in hindu scriptures. In fact Hindu scriptures say that another incarnation of Lord Vishnu is due.
I don't show disrespect to this prediction. But simply I don't believe it. Well we may face severe natural disaster on that particular date.
