THis wouldn't have been so bad, except they used our debit card number which put us into the hole.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Several years ago, someone used my Visa card to order quite a few items from a catalog. Since the purchases were so large, the bank caught the suspcious activity and called me to ask if it was really me. Since it was not, the bank removed the charges and opened a new account for me.
Is the bank going to refund the amounts you did not charge? What a pain that you're having to go through this.

The bank put the money back in the account while they investigate, so it could be worse. I just wish that it had been a regular credit card instead. Using the debit card really messed up the finances until we figured out what had happened. We had to get new cards, which really stunk because a lot of places around here don't take checks. We ended up going to the ATM a lot. I'm glad that the bank questioned the activity on your card and called you. OTherwise, it could have been a lot worse.
