i think these legends and myths have real-life bases. for example, here in our country, there's a popular legend about "aswang". they are monsters in many shapes that eat humans specifically internal organs and little babies. they are usually aloof when they are in human form, outcasts and introverts. i just read in a magazine that people in the old age commonly brands introverts and outcasts as mysterious and secretive. they tend to speculate as what these kinds of people do. sometimes they have wild imagination. and when they see someone with red eyes and would seem to be afraid of other people, they would think that this person is doing something monstrous at night. .
