Obama's disrespect of the American flag or something else?

I've seen several stories of Democratic candidate Barack Obama either not saluting the American flag, not placing his hand over his heart during the playing of our national anthem and being against wearing an American flag pin. What does not supporting these United States of America symbols mean? What are your beliefs as an American or not as an American or your beief why he does not support symbols that mean so much to so many? What does he beleive in then? Then most important to me how can there be a president that does not support important american symbols, how will he be sworn in as president and take the oath to protect and serve our country.

I think perhaps you have not gotten an accurate story regarding Barack Obama and the American flag pin nor the hand over the heart regarding the National Anthem.
I hate to say it but there are a lot of untruths being thrown about and unfortunately they are often being thrown about to cause people to fear the opposition whatever that is...
Barack did in fact wear the pin for quite awhile after 9-11 and then took it off for reasons which he explained:

updated 3:22 p.m. PT, Thurs., Oct. 4, 2007
WATERLOO, Iowa - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, D-Ill., said he will no longer wear an American flag lapel pin because it has become a substitute for “true patriotism” since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
He commented on the pin in a television interview Wednesday and then again on Thursday at a campaign appearance in Independence, Iowa.
“My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart," he told the campaign crowd Thursday. "You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals. That’s what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals.”
So this not wearing the flag pin was not done out of disrespect for the flag but was done as an honorable call for people to egage in real patriotic activity... Unfortunately there were those who did not hear the actual reason and jumped to make false assumptions and emailed them all over the net. It is a sad thing indeed to see such lies espoused by so many.
Regarding the flag and the National Anthem...

Note that there are many pictures of him with hands over heart during National Anthem... He though in one case did not... He said that he was taught to sing during the National Anthem and to place hand over heart during the Pledge.
I have seen many in the younger generation do the same thing.
The fact that he at least sings that Anthem is a good thing and as a singer who has led people in singing that song, I can tell you that a lot of Americans do not sing it when they are supposed to do so or sing it badly. I give him credit for actively singing it.
I believe quite honestly that he will be great as President of the United States and I already voted for him. Contrary to the rumors, I believe that Barrack is a good American, is a good person and is fully capable of conducting himself in an appropriate manner as the President of the United States.
I also believe that he exercised a lot of restraint in not resorting to using a lot of lies about McCain in his political announcements. It seems to me that whenever I do any fact checking, I find that Palin and McCain have lied about him and about themselves as well. I find this to be disturbing as I thought that the Repubican Party was supposed to be more moral and more Christian than the Democratic Party... at least it claims to be so... It is a pity that in this case it is not living up to its ideals and is running a bad campaign.

Thank you so much for your input. This is what I was looking for in posting this discussion to shed some light on the truth, and spark a whole other side to what I have been seeing smeared through the news media. The shock subject I started this in I was hoping would prompt someone with more knowledge to bring more truth about this here for people who think as I do sometimes when seeing lies like this everywhere. With your comments I beleive I've found someone that I am really refreshed to hear discuss the truth.

Also, if flag pins are so important to you, notice who WASN'T wearing one during any of the debates: John McCain.
Obama was wearing one all three times.
Hypocrisy?

If flag pins aren't important then why did you mention it in your post?

"blantly saying he wouldn't wear the pin is"
a total fabrication. I'd like to see a quote of him saying he "wouldn't wear the pin".
