Which do you want first? The good news or the bad news?

Everything is fine, but Sunday morning I asked my parents which they wanted to hear first, the good news or the bad news. I ended up just telling them the bad news first. Like I said, everything is fine though. : ) That prompted me to think about when people ask what we want to hear first: the good news or the bad news. When there are those choices, which do you prefer to hear first? Good news...Bad news...?

I think I would rather have the bad news first. If I hear the bad news first it might make the good new seem better, but if I hear the good news first then the bad news will seem really bad. Does that make sense?

Hello AmbiePam. If both bad and good news come together, I would like to listen to the bad first before the good one. This way my mood will be changed from bad to good.

I would like to hear good news first. There is a reason for. Good news make me happy, so impact after bad news is limited.

No, it wasn't. I was able to make it humerous in the end. They were just worried about me.

I think I would like to hear the bad news first, then maybe the good news will brings something that would either make the bad news less bad, or show a way to turn it around. Bad news is only bad news if there is no way to do anything to change it, so give me the bad news then let me hear what we might could do about it.

of course the bad ones first. lol it's the same thing as taking a piece of chocolate right after the yucky tasting medecine :D The good news would sweeten up the bad ones.

I prefer the bad news first. Negative stories always hit the news on television and on the printed media. So I don't blame your parents if they wanted to hear it first. I would have chosen the same thing too. © ronaldinu 2008

I would go with bad news first I guess but there are times I only want to hear good news, anything bad I don't need or want to know because either I knew it would happen or I am too emotional to hear it at the time

I have to listen to the bad news first. If I've already heard that bad news, I will feel much better to know the good one. Then, everything may be OK. On the other hand, I will get disappoint to know something bad even as I am excited!

I want to hear the bad news first then finish it off with the good. That way it balances out the bad.

I think I'd take the bad news 1st. Not that I am a glutton for punishment. But it would make the good news sound all the sweeter. Might make me even more happy to hear it!

Hi ambie! I think that the standard answer to this question is just about always that people want the bad news first! That is what I have always determined to be the most preferred answer! What is the point of hearing the good news when you know that the bad news is right behind!

I like to hear bad news then good news. Bad news will make you bad literally but it will be replace when you heard the good news later on. We must dwell on the good side than the bad side. Happy posting.

Bad news first, and I want to hear it all as quickly as possible. Then hopefully the good news will balance out the bad news.

I like to hear the bad news first....then soften the blow with the good news....sometimes the bad doesn't seem so bad when you have something to look forward to.

Definitely the bad news first, 'coz it'll feel like I'm thrown down a pit...but then when hearing the good news, I'm lifted back up HE HE HE...

I always ask for the bad news first, at least then there is the hope that the good news will soften the blow of the bad news after! I hate it when someone says it to me, there is good news and bad news which do you want first!

I prefer to hear the bad news first. Then I know that there is good news afterwards, which may cheer me up, after hearing bad news.
