If you were commissioner, how would you rid the league of diving? I heard a good idea, how about giving the player who dives a 10 minute game misconduct?

Well, the current commissioner of the NHL won't do anything because his favorite player is biggest diver in the league.I think you all know his name.

I agree with you that diving is a serious issue in the NHL; however, a 10 minute game misconduct? C'mon that's a little too harsh. I think we first have to provide a framework to qualify what is and isn't a dive. I mean how is a dive going to be justified. What if an alleged dive is actually not one at all. Yes, some are obvious but this is not a simple issue. We could use instant-replay to review whether penalties were justified such as diving, but this would slow the game down tremendously. In conclusion, I think a proper training for referees and a 2 minute double minor would do it for me;P

A friend of mine agrees with you. He said that Refs Know a dive when they see it and they just don't call it. A double minor works for me.

The problem with diving is you are leaving it as a judgement call for the refs and the league is trying to get rid of any judgement calls. They want every rule to be enforced the same no matter who is the one blowing the whistle, and the only way to do that is write rules that are clear cut. Diving will always be a judgement so anything more then matching minor can lead to ref's influencing the flow of the game. Imagine if Zetterberg would have got called the other night when Montreal player triped him (no penalty was actually called on the play) it could have lead to a boring last couple minutes as Zetterberg set in the box because the ref felt he dove, yet everyone else saw it as him being triped. I think that players need to respect the game a bit more and let the ref's call the penalties, and the ref's need to do a better job calling games consistanly so players dont feel they have to embelish the call to get attintion.
