Conniving Co-Workers

Now everyone has those certain co-workers that they just don't get along with. But does anyone know what to do with a conniving co-worker that thinks she knows everything and must know what everyone's doing at the sametime. I've got a co-worker that if she doesn't get her way she raises a stink by threatening to go to HR all the time by not getting a day off. She even tells the boss that someone dies in her family every few months so she gets more time off with bereavement which doesn't count against your paid time off or sick time. It's like management doesn't even see it coming and just doesn't pay attention to her scams. Do i approach HR and mention that she's just impossible to work with or should i just let her dig her own grave which might not ever happen?
