How do you say "phoneme"? I have never seen or heard of this word, ever! My first grade some comes home with a book his teacher made to help them learn sounds to help with reading and spelling. I had to look this word up on dictionary.com. It's nice the site will even say the word for you. Do you know what this means? The smallest phonetic unit in a language that is capable of conveying a distinctioin in meaning. You can look it up for the longer version of the meaning. (Since I can't copy & paste it yet).

I do know what a phoneme is but maybe because I'm a student in a teacher education program and we have to study all of these sorts of things to make sure that we are teaching the children how to say things, spell things and read correctly, or in a way that's best suited for each individual child.

I think it means call me( as in phoning someone) but there are some words which are calleed street language and is like taking the original written word and putting it in the other way but the pronouciation is sometimes the same. Words like "gonna"(going to/for) gal(girl) are some of what we call street language, because you just pick it up on the street and all of a sudden is widely used and people like them But i believe is killing the proper way of writting and teaching kids who are still learning a language, i mean how on planet would you get to write gal instead of girl?, and if you are a student...you already got it wrong
