The low ratings...

This is a little offtopic but oh well... Maybe I'm just confused but did you notice that most atheists around here have low ratings. I mean most of you guys have something between 5-7 stars. And by reading your posts, it doesn't seem that you've said anything offensive, rude or plain stupid, most of you are intelligent persons that like to share their opinions. Is it possible that people rate you with minus just because they don't like what you believe? (I always rate you positive)

I've never thought that being an atheist had anything to do with my low rating. I was up to a 7 point star when I made the mistake of posting in a particular politics discussion. The next day I logged on and found myself knocked down to 4. While I'm not always the nicest poster, I always make sure to write coherently and provide sources when I can. Obviously I was rated '-' by many for my views, but that was political, not religious.

Well, politics and religion are somewhat similar :P And it's not just a joke. There are political views, especially the liberal ones like gay rights and some women rights (like abortion) that will surely affect a conservative christian (as well as a republican :D). But that's not the point because the rating system was not meant to rate responses depending on your political or religious view, but from a neutral view. Or at least that's the way I do it. But as long as it doesn't affect my earnings, I don't care about ratings :D

There are people who neg folks who disagree with them. This is contrary to the guidelines. I only rate people negative if they are out and out abusive to somebody. But there are some folks on here, they get offended by somebody and they go and neg every single response that a person leaves. Which is really offensive. But there are also some people here who are just really outspoken (I tend to be more diplomatic) and that is going to attract more negative ratings.

Most of the time I would accept even profanity (I have something against censorship), but only as long as it isn't pointed to someone directly, as in an offensive way. I believe that pounding someone for something they said, especially when you don't have any argument, it's just a manifestation of that persons oversized ego and should be punished according to this website's law :D

Hi there Daw Gwath! Unfortunately, yes, there are some people who abuse or just don't know how to use the rating feature. Some take take discussions personally and when they get hurt, they would feel like getting even by giving the opposing party a negative rating. Not everyone does that but there are some who do.

Yep, that's too bad. Oh well, it's there and it's their right to do it, although it may not be fair for some people.

My guess is that you are correct that people are down rating them because of their beliefs, or should I say lack of beliefs. I don't think that is fair. We are not suppossed to be here to judge each other and what we believe or don't believe, we are suppossed to honestly judge the quality of the answers we receive not weather or not we agree with what people say.

Yep, I'm glad you agree with me. And as I said, sometimes it's hard for me to rate a comment, so I prefer not to do it, instead of not doing a good appreciation.
