Not As Many Trick Or Treaters This Halloween

Halloween - Trick or Treat? Halloween

I took my children out Trick or Treading but it seemed as though about half as many houses had their porch lights on or decorations out. And also I noticed that there were not that many children going door to door along with my children. I am wondering if the economy has anything to do with this. I think it must. I bought 2 bags of candy to hand out after we came back but not one person came to the door and I had my lights on and decorations outside. So, how about you out there? What was your experience this year? Thanks for your input and happy myLotting!!!

Halloween 2008 - Decorations for Halloween at one house we went to.
We were not home this year for halloween, we were out of town at our daughter's house. She and I took my grandson trick or treating and her small town is a very big high school football supporter and I think most of them were at the game. We took my grandson and his friend to a nearby town that is bigger and there were quite a few kids at times in some areas and the houses, hit and miss, mostly miss. A lot of them were decorated but no lights on...this town had a football game that night also plus we saw they had a big thing going on at the city park. My grandson got more then enough goodies and he had fun, the fun part is the main thing.

Now days malls, city parks, and other businesses do a party trying to keep kids safe and off the streets near me. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

The decoration was not in my daughter's yard, it was in one where my grandson went to get treats. I am sure it was bought at Walmart. My daughter found a huge one of Bevo, the Texas Longhorn mascot at the Walmart there also. Check your local Walmart for things like that, I know they also have things like that for Christmas, snowmen and things like that.

Yes, I agree the fun part is the most important part of it all. My kids got enough candy, I was just surprised at the fact that it was about half as many houses giving out stuff and only a handful of kids. Really cute witch decoration by the way! Where did you buy that? I would love one for next year for my house! Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

Mmmm...I want to come to your house for the leftovers! We only went through half a bag ourselves. I think maybe we saw 5 groups come to our door. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

I was at work. It is a residential job. One of my houses had candy, they had about twenty to twenty five trick or treaters. According to the news Halloween was bigger than ever this year because it is easier and cheaper to have a big Halloween than a big Christmas. Even our clients in a large apartment complex only had about twenty five trick or treaters.

Really? Is that the reason they said it was a bigger Halloween this year? I'm sorry but I love Christmas more than Halloween. I would rather give up Halloween than Christmas. I can't imagine a year without Christmas. I know my budget is smaller this year than last but all of my children will get something this year. Hmmm...I wonder then about my neighborhood. I bet everyone was saving their money for Christmas. That is just my guess. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

I had bought about 30 bags of candy and I handed all of that out and was raiding my kitchen for popcorn packets, etc. I had more children than last year! There were decorations of some sort on nearly every house on my block, weeks ahead of time. They really get into the holidays here!

Wow! That is really great! Not here in this neighborhood. I think there are a lot of older people living around here. Not too many children. I didn't even give out a whole bag of candy! Thanks for you comment and have a great day!

Well, I was at work. So I couldn't tell you one way or the other. As we all were at work at my house. But from what my nieghbor said no one showed up. I don't live in the best of areas in my city. But most of the kids go to the parks or to the Mall of America. As they had a big thing going on out there. Your friend onlydia

Where my daughter lives the small area of stored did give out candy to kids from 3 until 5 and my grandson and his friend decided they wanted to go at almost 5 so by the time they got there most of them were closed as it was just after 5 but they got a lot from the few that were still opened.

Wow! I think pennies are a great idea! You really got a lot of trick or treaters coming to your door! I only used up about half a bag for my trick or treaters! My kids would have loved the pennies. That is very thoughtful and probably cheaper than buying the candy too! At least at the inflated prices they are nowadays! Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

Apparently in our neighborhood, there were lots of children trick o treating. My son came home with a full bucket of candy, most of which I've had to hide LOL

My kids worked their way through their candy in 2 nights! It is ok though as I won't give them many sweets until Christmas now. I usually let them go wild on Halloween night and then we taper off the few days afterward. They are kids only once, so I try to let them enjoy it. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

I only had seven....but I think it's because the malls offer a safe enviroment for the kids instead of going door to door.....I had my light on too...but there were very few kids on the street.

You know, we have never gone to the malls for trick or treating before. I wonder if all the stores give out candy? I wonder if they give out very much? It just doesn't seem the same going around a mall as opposed to going around the neighborhood. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

I took my kids trick or treating in my brothers neighborhood this year. I would say every 3rd house had lights on. We only did about 20 houses since the kids really do not need the candy anyway.

Wow! That's the way to do it - go around in a truck. We walked our neighborhood. Well, it was good for me - I needed the exercise. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

There were quite a few lights out. But my daughter and her cousins still came away with quite a hall. We bought 4 bags of candy and were able to give it all out. There are years that are slower than others. We decorated so our house was busy.

You are lucky that you got rid of all of your candy. I am stuck with a few bags still. Our house was all decorated too. Oh well. We shall see next year... Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

We did not have as many children in our neighborhood this year either. I think it is because of the economy. I don't think a lot of people can afford to buy candy to give away this year. Hopefully next year will be better.

Yes, I think it was the economy too. I hope next year is better also. We have all had a rather tough year for 2008. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day!

When I moved into my present condo, we had 200 the first year. It dropped to about 120 by the time I stopped giving out because of ill health. My neighbours now tell me it has gone down to about 75. Today I would not give out because I cannot afford it. I noticed also that a lot of people do not put out as many christmas lights. This started when the electricity took a jump. A shame really but a sign of the times.

Yes, I know it was hard for me to afford the candy too. And the costumes I waited until the stores were having them 40% off right before Halloween to buy them. Otherwise I would have never been able to afford it. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

I noticed there weren't as many people giving out candy or trick or treating this year as well. It was kind of a let down, looking back on the days I trick or treated as a kid. The kids seem to have enjoyed it though, and got plenty!! We only had one trick or treater, and she came twice!!

Yes, it is kind of sad that there weren't as many trick or treaters here either. It was almost like the people were not in the spirit of the holiday this year. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!
