Self-taught writers. Any advice?

A few weeks ago, I started a discussion in mylot, regarding what I should do in my life. I'm a law graduate, but I have never worked in that field, and I have forgotten much of what I have learnt at college in fact. I have been a stay at home wife and mother for about 4 years now, and I'd like to start a career or work. Not only because I need the money (everybody need the extra cash now and then), but also I would like to do something more in my life.
I do write everyday (I blog), thus I felt that, perhaps it is a good idea if I teach myself to write, and write well enough to be able to get paid to do it. I did want to write articles for magazines and newspapers before. I just had no idea, what made me choose to do law instead of learning how to write. Now that I am slightly free to learn new skills, I'd like to pursue that interest - writing.
Now, with that said, I do hope somebody would give me sound advice as where and how I should start. What books would you recommend me to get my hands on, etc.
Your responses will be very much appreciated.

Well, the first thing I have to say is really leading up to a question. I just cliked your user name and went to your profile and I am curious as to why there is no link to your blog. So why is that?
