Loving Your Enemy

Do you believe that you should love your enemy? I have heard, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." What do you think?
In my personal experience, when you treat an, "enemy" like a friend, all you do is make them more mad and people seem to think that you are just being friendly to avoid a fight.
I do enjoy seeing them get angrier, but I've never backed down from a fight and I don't like people thinking that backing down is what I'm trying to do.
What do you guys think?

Well, it is easier said than done, But i am glad that i dont have any enemies for i dont like to create trouble. If their is misunderstanding between my friends and i, i will solve it right away to avoid conflects and more problem in the future. I like friends and i dont like to have enemies.
