an enneagram is a nine pointed figure inscribed in a circle and the symbol points to nine distinct and interrelated personality types. its been used in psychology and has some roots in spirituality. you can get good references to it from psychology books.

Thanks for the reply :)
Where did this knowledge come from? How did they develop this system?

Hmm.. lets see... The symbol itself came from geometry for a nine-pointed figure. The words come from Ennea (Greek for nine) and grammon (writ or draft). The figure can be a regular enneagram, a star (which has regular points) or can be an irregular enneagram (such as the one used in the Enneagram of Personality). Its use in symbolism is said to date back to 2500 BC as used by certain cults, though the modern symbol was used in the 1930's by Gudjieff for his teachings. It's pretty esoteric stuff and its been used by others along the way, including major religions.
