What defines friendship? I have only a very few true friends. They are characterized by someone who i can talk to about most anything without being judged. They are people i can call if i ever need anything at all and they will make sure that i get what is needed. They are people who i rely on heavily to help me when my emotions have gone crazy. They are people i trust and depend on to tell me the truth even when i don't want to hear it. A true friend is hard to come by. If you have a true friend you better hang on to them. They are so hard to find and irreplaceable.

I think your original post is an excellent description of what makes a true friend. I would like to add that a true friend is someone who allow you to feel what you feel, to express yourself in your own individual way, and to accept your faults. Further, a true friend not only accepts your faults, but celebrates them and loves you BECAUSE of your faults.
Great question.

My parents always told me if life you will be able to call just a handful of people real friends. People that you can go to is great, but people you can go to and hold your confidences- that's a real friend. But I think the best sign that you have found a true friend is when they come to you and you are there for them. Its a two way street and when you find that- its a real gift.
