That is the good news, but I have not lost any weight. Even though my sugar went down, and I have been doing quit a bit of walking, I am still at the same weight I was two weeks ago. I mean I have been cutting out and exercising more, eating more veggies and salads, but nothing seems to work. Is this what borderline diabetes mean that the weight never comes off? I am feeling so depressed.

It isn't unuseral for the weight to level off during weight loss. Getting the sugar under control will actually stop weight loss of a bit, because high blood sugar caused the wrong kind of weight loss and it takes the body a bit to correct itself once it get that under control.

I did not know that. I thought that once I get my sugar under control, that my weight would start to come off.

That could be what is happening to me. I cannot go and sleep walk at night to lose weight. And I do walk a lot, and I do lift weights, but I think when you have diabetes even the borderline kind that i HAVE, that the weight does not come off. Yet according to the skinny people it is supposed to.

The weight will come off! I work with a lady that was recently diagnosed with diabetes and she's lost 20 pounds but it took her 5 months. The good news is that she feels much better and her blood sugar is down. She found that the timing of her eating was the key to weight loss. Breakfast is her biggest meal, lunch is a tasty salad with chicken and sugarless dressing--she uses very little, puts her salad in a bowl with a plate or saucer on top and shakes it to cover all the good stuff in there--and dinner is another salad with some vegetables, maybe some chicken with lemon sauce or dijon mustard sauce or something, maybe some fish, and sugarless jello for dessert. She takes in 1200-1500 calories a day so her body won't think it's starving and hoard fat. She has a couple of snacks per day, like an apple or orange or maybe some sugarless candy, a few pieces.
Don't be discouraged! As you can see, my friend is losing and staying healthy and improving her condition. She still has about 40 pounds to lose and at this rate she'll be trim and healthy in 10 more months! I suspect she'll begin to lose quicker as her body re-adjusts its metabolism. This is also how I lost 65 pounds a couple of years ago, although I'm not diabetic I lose VERY slowly!
Keep your chin up and keep working hard!

I don't have diabetes, but I have another problem that affects my metabolism. I get frustrated because I do a ton of exercise and follow my diet perfectly, yet I GAIN weight. Eventually, it will go down again, but it's frustrating. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, my weight goes up and down without doing anything different. When it goes up and up and up, I get discouraged because I never know when it will ever go down. But, it does.

I started to gain weight from the time I was thirty, and could not lose it. And it hurt to move from a climate that was very mild, to a climate that was cold in the winter and where it took a long time to walk someplace. Have you gone to the doctor to see what was wrong? I do know that when I eat mainly fruits and salads, my weight goes down.

Please disregard this answer if it is totally wrong, but I think you might want to get a good book on what foods are "good" foods. Is it not correct that certain veggies contain quite a bit of sugar? Again, I might be totally wrong. I am so very happy to hear that the BP and cholesterol were normal! That is most important. If that is going to stay that way you MUST get that depression under control. (Easy for me to say, huh?) Talk with your doctor about your depression. There may be a way to help you handle that. It stinks to have weight problems but don't give up. It is going to be more difficult in the winter but there are several good sites that are great support sites to help you not only with excercise programs but diet programs as well. I am sending you love~Donna

I know that corn is on that list, so if I have corn I have to go without some other sweet stuff. Cannot get the depression under control. It is just there, but my skinny doctor who never had a weight problem is not helping any when he thinks I have been eating bonbons and cheating. Trouble I feel if I did my exercises and kept to my diet and nothing happened, maybe I should go to eating bonbons(well we have that Halloween candy still left). That is how I feel. I have to just keep walking a lot so that I keep the weight off. I just hate the tread mill. It is not going everywhere and I want to get out more often.

Right Missis. Quit that negative stance. You have changed your diet positively, you've started to walk more and I bet that you are just as busy as ever. I can tell you that the weight will come off. Right now your body is asking itself what is going on. Think positively and you will see the results. Read those diet sheets carefully and ask your doctor for help if necessary. Smile, you're not alone. I'm ending you some positive energy and a HUG!

I do not exactly trust my doctor after I told him that my lump was not cancerous he was shocked that they were not going to remove my br*st. I have to remember to take a typewritten note with me that says, "I have not forgiven the ones who did not want me to get pregnant and made sure that I did not, and I will never forgive anyone who assumes I will be, was, and am a bad parent."
That will fix him.

It probably took years to gain weight and you want if off in two weeks? Ain't going to happen, it usually takes longer to take it off than put it on, besides slow weight loss is way better than crash diets which do not work in the long run. Besides, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are a couch potato you can actually gain a little weight as you gain muscle but are actually shedding inches.
The important thing here is healthy. You might want to add a little weight training in your routine (do not overdo it) as muscle burns more calories than fat anyway. Exercise is important in controlling blood sugar too, so your walks are important.

Let me see I am 65 years old, and I want to take the weight off before I die at around 90. So if it took me thirty five years to put that weight on, does it mean that it will take thirty five years to lose that? I was at 202 lb the last time I weighed at the doctor's office, and that was about two weeks ago. I should be at 198 lb.

Don't get depressed or discouraged. If you stick to a diabetic diet, even though you are not diabetic yet, you will loose weight in time. Notice the portion control in a diabetic diet. Also you should stick to foods that are low on the Glycemic Index such as oats, whole grains and legumes. If you have a chance check out the "Good Carb Cookbook", Secrets of Eating Low on the Glycemic Index. The author is Sandra Woodruff, M.S. R.D. I got a copy in the neighbourhood Public Library. It has some neat recipes in it that the whole family will like. Keep up the walking before the snow drifts pile up. After that talk a friend or husband into mall walking in a mall nearby. Above all stay positive.

Don't be depressed! It won't help. Loosing weight usually won't kick in for a few weeks. I'm sure if you keep up your routine, you will find more promising results at your next chech up. Keep at it, suspenseful and you will succeed.

My husband has been diabetic all his life. He lost weight and is maintaining with metformin, thankfully he doesn't need insulin. He had to work hard but he dropped 50 pounds by cutting out sweets and eating less and getting excercise, so I know it can be done.

I'm sorry to say this but weight doesn't come off when you are sensible, it will start coming off if you are following a sensible diet but I've often dieted like mad for months for a specific occasion (say like a wedding) and nothing happened and then a week or two after the event the weight that should have come off before suddenly comes off. It's very frustrating but it takes time hun. I have been diagnosed with diabetes for 2.5 years now and on medication for just over a year and found it took ages when I was being so strict with my diet. When I relaxed a bit and didn't stress so much about it all, the weight started coming off then! I've only lost about 7 kilos but it all counts! Please don't be depressed, take it from someone who's been there, our bodies are weird and never do exactly as we expect them to do! xx

My doctor was surprised that I did not loose any weight. But I had been trying to and it never happened. I also heard that if i lose weight, my diabetes might go away. I am on glyboride and I hear one of its side effects is that it makes you gain weight. So far that has not happened, but I am worried about when it does finally start to snow here. I do not want to gain the weight back I lost.

Losing weight is a frustrating thing. Based on theory, you lose weight (and get healthier) when you do two things - burn more than you take in, and eat healthier, portion controlled things. The problem with this picture is that your BODY does not read and understand theories.
I lost about 12 lbs a couple years ago when I finally stopped being lazy after my daughter was born. She was TWO. She is now four and half and I have pretty much maintained the loss since then. You might want to measure yourself AND have your body fat checked. I did NOT lose ANY weight in the first 2 weeks of exercising and eating better, in fact I didn't lose any weight for over a month. I was VERY frustrated. However, I lost inches everywhere, hips, arms, waist, legs and my body fat went down. Because there were women at the gym I went to who helped keep me motivated and offered the measuring, then I had something to be happy about when the scale wasn't budging. My clothes started to fit better, which was a plus, I have clothes from 10 years ago I did NOT want to have to throw out! I had more energy. How do you feel? Do you have more energy and sleep better?
Keep a food and exercise journal, there are online sites where you can track calories eaten and calories burned. You can also buy yourself a small measuring tape so you can measure yourself, note the numbers, then do it again a month later.

BTW I also want to mention I am not overweight BUT my cholesterol was AWFUL, something like 273. My doctor was very very worried about me and that's what prompted me to get my butt to the gym and start eating more fresh foods. I really did not want to be put on medication forever, the thought of that scared me more than I wanted to be lazy and eat Doritos. I felt I was way too young to have to worry about a thing like this. My cholesterol and blood pressure are now low/normal and my doctor was shocked when I told her how I did it. I was very motivated though, if I'm not healthy I am a miserable person lol.

I have had best luck one year with Weigh Down Workshop, a spiritually based weight loss plan, and then lately, when I did Wellness360 and recorded the calories in and the calories I spent, then I lost weight then. An added incentive was that they were paying me to use their program and I wanted to reach payout. I am going to get back to that. You will lose weight. Sometimes it just takes awhile. It is really good that cholesterol and BP are doing better.

Don't feel depressed by the weight loss, at least your blood pressure and cholesterol are normal, even sugar level went down, that proves that your health has become better now. As for the weight, perhaps you just need to persist on your current lifestyle, exercise more and eat more healthy food, I'm sure you'll lose the extra weight. Keep on the good work!

well that does not sound bad suspenseful, not really..I also went to the doctor laST week & i had to get my meds refilled,so he took a blood test...Well the doctor called me and said my colesterol is very high, even though i take a zocar every night,so now i have to wait 2 months & go back,if it hasn't went down then he will have to change my meds...I do not have a weight problem,i am fairly thin but my blood it fat i guess....So with that i must say it is not always what you weigh..I wear a size 8 pants so you can be thin & still have problems...I have never been a heavy person so it is not ALL weight that causes problems....Don't get depressed, sounds like you are doing quite well..I also have high blood pressure too....

Hi there Suspenseful. I am a Type 2 diabetic on medication so maybe I can help a little.
Important item no 1:- Your blood sugar Must come down, and if your doctor has suggested Metformin, TAKE THEM.
Important item no 2:- Get onto an official Diabetes info site and find out just what you should be doing for yourself, re. diet and lifestyle.
Important item no 3:- Face the fact that you may never lose all your weight, but every kilo helps. I have been fighting the good fight for over 12 years, without much success, but I remain optimistic.
Important item no 3:- Cheer up :)
