A hiccup is the spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm that repeats several times per minute. In humans, the abrupt rush of air into the lungs causes the epiglottis to close, creating the "hic"...blah blah blah...we all know what a hiccup is :)
But what is the best way to stop it?
Drinking water doesnt work for me. Holding air sometimes work, but not always. So right now I'd love to know whats helping, because its starting getting on my nervous lol
They say that when you get a hiccup someone is thinking of you and you should be thinking of different person, so when you guess which person is thinking of you hiccups stop :) Is there any other superstition involving hiccups?

hi, In my place the remedy for normal hiccups is just drinking water, or providing some shocking news to that person hiccupping. The shocking news would stop the hiccup most of the time.
Once my sister got hiccup and she was in a very bad sate that she had to be admitted in a hospital and had to be given IV. This was due to de hydration. So drink a plenty of water and be hydrated. Whether hiccup was due to dehyration or not, drinking water is healthy.
As well, one interesting this. Due you know fetus in the womb do hiccup. Right now I am 27 weeks pregnant and read lot of articles stating that the baby in the womb to hiccup. After we eat some spicy food, after an hr or 2 they will get the taste from the amniotic fluid and start responding to it by hiccuping. Seems the fetus hiccoping is quite normal and not to worry about.
So the next time you get a hiccup train your friends to scare u ....
