I have a 5 year old daugther and I try my best to engage her in activities that stimulate her brain and that will shape her to be a better person later in life. I take her fishing and teach her about the different fish we catch. She has learned what kind of lures to use in different water and sun situations.
I've taken her into the woods with her bb gun and taught her how to aim and shoot.
I've taken her to operas and that was horrible for me, but she really enjoyed it.
I've taken her to plays and we both enjoyed it.
We ride the 4 wheeler around the bayou and try to find critters.
We go on hikes and I try to teach her everything I can about what we see.
We read books every night and she's starting to fall in love with reading as she gets better at it.
What does everyone else do to stimulate their kids and get them thinking?? I'm open to all ideas.

I just talk to my kids. When you really think about it. Showing you care enough to listen they tend to talk about more things and you can teach by just talking. Also try to get involved in things SHE likes to do. If she enjoys coloring and drawing then do it with her, dont just take her to an art gallery. If she likes books then get a book that has pictures of the art in the art gallery they usually have some history about the art and the artist. You could also get her the How to Draw books to encourage her creativity.
The first thing you need to do is find out what she likes to do and work from there.

That's really good advice. She really loves playing with this huge dollhouse she has, and I will sit down with her for hours and play with that thing. She also LOVES to play games. We have a family night once a week where we have no TV at all. We sit down for dinner and talk and then we each pick an activity to do that night. Sometimes we do crafts, sometimes we play games, sometimes we walk around the neighborhood........It definately brings the family closer.
