in your own language? I'm sure there's others on here who speak the same language as you. I find it very hard sometimes to read people's posts because their english is very bad :-p

Did you know that posting or not writing in english is in direct violation of myLot's rule? Unless you are interpreting something for that person. It is prohibited to write something aside from english language. You should have known it earlier and at the same time considering that this forum has lots of international members. That would mean that not everyone had english as their first language, somehow 2nd, third, forth and so on.

Well when a post is unreadable, isn't that considered non-English?

It may not be readable but you just have to catch between the lines of the main point of the discussion. If we are going to be strict about it then yes it is non-English but this is not an English proficiency activity. People here are trying their best to interact with your language even if it's hard to do it but we are learning something everyday. If we are just allowed to speak and write in our native language then I for sure would like to do that but the thing is were you able to understand me if I'm going to write it in my own language? What kind of forum would this be if only a few could interact? We would end up in forum segregation if that's the case. So there's no point of making a discussion when only a few could understand it. And wouldn't it be unfair to you that we understand what you are saying yet you don't have any idea of what we are talking about if we talk with our own language? And how are we going to learn from each other if we are going to use languages that only a few could understand? There are a lot of members here who actually are trying to polish their English proficiency.

Maybe after this anyone who wish to be MyLot user must have Degree in English first. As MyLot is based on the Internet and Internet is accessible from around the world, you must realised that not everyone in the world is mastering their English very well. I think that your statement reflecting on me too as my English also not very good. Same like several other opinions before that we join here beside to generate some income is to learn and improve our English. Hopefully by reading the sentences from the English language expert like you will enable us to pick one or two useful tips.On behalf of my side, I'm really sorry and please accept my apologize if my earlier post have bothering and irritates you because of the language quality.

thank you and sorry if i insulted you, it wasn't my intentions. I just thought people would prefer to type in their own language but i didn't know the mylot guidelines. I have nothing against anyone i just find it a little frustrating when i come across posts that are unreadable

It might be nice if myLot would have that kind of segregation due to language usage of the members. If that were the case, english usage in this site wouldn't be among the rules and guidelines. Then again, if members would use their own language, discussions wouldn't become engaging and wouldn't cover other point of views as having different language would imply different cultures which in turn would suggest different opinions on particular topics.. Being able to communicate in english or trying to is already a good step on developing one's communication skills. English happens to be not my native language but I can more or less use it to communicate with those who do. Seeing others who still are trying to use a different language other than their own just to communicate in replying their point of view, I might as well be considerate since I too am just using a language that isn't innately ours. Reading through their post however gets me to understand the gist of their opinion even if some of the words aren't as well constructed as they should. Constant use and practice would obviously improve that.

It's against the rules to post in another language here on mylot, so therefore they must post in English or risk their discussions and replies / comments to be deleted as well as even their account.

Because its one of the rules of mylot, that we should post in English. but i think Mylot is nice, because it can help non-english speaking people to practice their english.. i have seen lots of users who do not speak english as their first language, but have improved in the long run..

I guess they just want to reach a wide range of people here. Some of them do not type very good english and it is hard for us to understand them alot of times though.

Obviously... English is the INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE that most people know and try to speak. Though sometimes, their English sounds funny but what matters here is the idea that they are trying to convey and the effort that they exert just to abide mylot rules.

Because, then we would have to sort through them. If they had a Mylot version for people who speak Arabic or whatever, I think that would be best, but they don't. They learn on here, to speak better English, and they helps them.

I really like the fact that English is the only language on MyLot. If everyone was allowed to write their own language, many of us wouldn't be able to understand their discussions. MyLot gives me the chance to talk to people from around the world and I think that is one of the best things about MyLot, and it is one of the main reasons why I am here. English is not my first language and I can't write perfect English, but as long as I can understand and make myself understood, that's all that matters. As far as I know the purpose of MyLot is communication, not perfect English. I really don't care about bad English. I might have to spend a bit of time, if I don't understand the post straight away. I might have to read it more than once to understand, but so what? I am more than willing to spend some time, after all I might miss out on an interesting discussion if I don't ;-)
