My mother has always done the cooking for holidays and I would help a little bit but not much. I never did do any cooking. Now, that she is 83 years old I do nearly all of the cooking including cooking for the holidys. I don't know much about baking cookies but I do bake cakes. I have taught myself to cook. Not very well, but it is eatable and the family says it is good. They would tell me the truth, too. Do you bake cookies for holidays? If you do, where do you get your recipes? Do you bake your cakes from a box or is it from scratch?

Thank you for your response. I guess baking cookies can't be that hard to do. I have never done much baking of cookies. My mother always done that. I just watched. Now, she can't do it and I am going to try.

After my kids were grown, my daughter and I started taking a day close to Christmas and making a bunch of different kinds of cookies and candy. We take all the homemade goodies and make up plates, wrap them in colored saran wrap and give them to people for presents. It has become such a tradition now that my son -- who is bringing his new girlfriend home to meet us this Christmas -- asked if we would wait and make the cookies when they get here so she can be a part of it too! That made me feel really good that he wanted her to be a part of it. It doesn't matter if the cookies are fancy -- I try to pick the easiest things I can -- I even use a mix for my sugar cookies (we decorate them and everyone has great fun eating the "mistakes"). I realized it doesn't matter how fancy things are -- we all just enjoy spending the day together! You can find recipes everywhere -- online or just buy a "cookies" cookbook and you'll find lots of easy things to make. It's great to start your own traditions.
