Yes there are other things going on than just Obama being elected. California voters have passed a bill to amend the state constitution to ban Same $ex marraige. I am alittle shocked by this. California is usually a very liberal state. I did not think it would pass. THis overturns a court decision that allowed same $ex marriage. It is being said that it will have to fought out in court wether or not the same $ex marriages that were performed in California after the court ruling will still be considered valid. Give me your thoughts on this one.

I'm not sure what to say really. It is california and the people of california have every right to amend the california state constitution how ever they see fit. Apparently the people spoke. I must say though, I'm kind of suprised, California seems to be one of the most progressive states in the country. I guess it's just progressives are just the most paid attention to in the media. I would say it goes to show that people, even in california and despite the myth that "most" people are beyond traditional values, traditional middle american values still prevail even in a progressive state like California.

I was shocked due to the fact that California has a reputation for being very liberal and tolerant. I guess that perception is wrong.

What puzzles me is who actually voted for this ban. African Americans voted for this ban at the tune of 70%. Now it is not a stretch to say that these same voters voted for Barack Obama. Now the point that I am making is this one, America has had segregation through out it's history. At one time in our history African Americans had to use separate water fountains, or set at the back of a bus. Now African Americans are saying that members of the homosexual community should be segregated. So if I am to read between the line civil rights do not apply in California at lest to the homosexual community.

You are right. You would think that because they were once discriminated against that they would realize how bad it was and not do it to someone else.
It does not make sense to me.

I guess everyone have the right to live their life the way they want. But yet law is made for the goodness of people. A killer can also say that its my life and i can do what i want. So law is for society and not just individual. I just hope law will figure out someway to make homosexuals feel at ease.

I find it disappointing that the Californians gave way to religious bigotry and stripped the right to marry away from gays. I don't think this is the end of this, however. I am confident that the Supreme Court will eventually strike down all the unconstitutional laws which define marriage as between a man and a woman in California, and any other state that has such laws.

I having nothing against gays but marriage is between a man and a woman-just as God intended. They can call it whatever else they choose to but it's not marriage any other way. California may be very liberal but there are still many many people who support the sanctity of marriage and are willing to fight for it.
