Fireworks

Another Bonfire Night, another two weeks of noise nuisance thanks to people who just can't help themselves.
I know fireworks are all part of the package, but why is it necessary to let them of so far in advance of November 5, and so late at night?
Call me a spoilsport, but I'd say launching a rocket that sounds like Concorde breaking the sound barrier in the middle of a residential area at close to midnight is a pretty selfish thing to do.
The same rocket looks and sounds just as impressive in the early evening - with the added advantage that it doesn't wake people up with a start, thinking they've suddenly found themselves in a battleground in deepest Afghanistan.
And why are they available in the shops, anyway? You can't go out and buy a gun (in the UK) so it's just idiotic that you can go out and buy a bomb.
I truly believe it would be in all our best interests to ban fireworks from public sale. That way fireworks could be limited to organised displays only, with permits for these granted by the relevant local authority.
Households are for sparklers - let's leave the rest of the pyrotechnic masterpieces to the experts.

It's probably better off that normal people don't go shooting them off. I don't have a problem with them, but my dog does. Actually I heard they are especially bad for an animal's sensitive ears. They're pretty, but I'm fine with just going somewhere to see them.

Hi, welcome to My Lot! I notice that this is your first discussion that you have created, congratulations! Anyway, yes, here we go once again! Bonfire night! Even as I respond there are loud bangers going off outside. I don't mind fireworks myself although I understand what you are saying. They become readily available well in advance of November the 5th. This is one night that I don't venture out as, where I live there's the local youths who hang around in gangs of twenty to thirty or so! This is extremely intimidating and they do like to mess around with fireworks, it's the same thing every year. You can almost guarantee that, once this night is over, fireworks will still be going off two weeks from now. I did attend a firework display once and I guess that's the best way to view fireworks. But, you know what it's like, you like to experience the excitement of actually holding and lighting the dam thing! Well, there you go. I don't think anything is going to change anytime soon. Happy guyfawkes by the way. Andrew
