For a good conversation both traits are needed. I do not think that a person should strive to be only good listener or only a good speaker. What would be the use if all people would be good listeners if there was nothing good to hear? Or the other way around. Usually the speakers talk in order to receive a response from the listener, like an advise for example. Then the roles change. The listener becomes the speaker, and the speaker becomes the listener. But if the listener is only a listener, then the speaker does not get any help from him/her. I think a good balance between the both is always important for a good conversation.

I prefer a good listener than a good speaker. This is because a good speaker may turn out to be selfish because only wants to talk about herself. She doesn't allow others to interrupt her talking, but at the same time wants everybody to listen to her. I never like a good speaker because from my experience many of them are very poor listener and they only know to talk but doesn't have empathy in their heart.
By being a good listener we are able to be a good friend who understands the situation, feelings and the meaning of the messages sent to us. We are also being generous to people because we give them chance to speak their own ideas.
