Do I Look Stupid?

I don't really bother too much about the way I look but I do bother about how clever I am :) It might annoy me a bit if anyone said anything about my appearance (although that hasn't happened for years) but I do get offended if people treat me as though I am stupid. It tends to be stupid people who make this kind of assumption but it is kind of annoying.

Well Pumpkin I know what you look like and I would say that you don't look stupid at all. Having known you for a while I would be very hard pushed to say that you were anything other than very bright. If others think that you are then that is their problem and not yours. If I see anyone here behaving that way towards you then I shall point out to them the error of their ways quite forcibly if necessary. Unfortunately there have always been people that think that they are cleverer than everybody else. Actually their arrogance masks the fact that they are pretty daft themselves if that is the way that they have allowed themselves to think. There must always be room for error in us all, that's the way we learn.

Well put! I agree with you. I have dealt with people like this and it's truly a waste of ones time.

I agree with you too Fish Face. The thing is that it I might not mind so much if the people actually were clever but I know certain people who actually aren't very bright at all but like to believe that they are really clever and just will not accept that other people are considerably brighter and will even make things up to show that they are somehow better.
It is ok to think you're clever if you are although if anyone was as bigheaded as me then that would annoy me! I do wonder, though, if there is something about me which makes people thing I must be stupid. It can be quite difficult you know because I am not quite clever enough for REALLY clever people but stupid people might think I was stupid by some things I say because they don't understand. There aren't many clever people around here but I am starting to find one or two!

LOL! Don't allow people to make you feel stupid. In fact, you don't have to feel stupid. We all have our plus and minuses, and we are good at many things that the others are not.
Cheers and happy mylotting

I don't let people make me think I am stupid. I know how brilliant I am!:)
I don't ever feel stupid because I know I'm not but it still can be frustrating and upsetting when some people appear to make the assumption that I must be stupid for some reason. Sometimes it's due to preconceived ideas of things such as where I'm from, what I do or what I have/haven't done but other times it seems to be for absolutely no reason at all.
I guess it could be compared to preconcieved notions that fat people must be lazy and eat too much and people who are, say, not in employment or don't have degrees must be stupid.
Anyway, thank you. You are true to your name.:) But don't worry, I might not be positive about everything but I have no doubt that I am not stupid but I think that might be what makes it so frustrating when people think I am!

Errrm, maybe as your sister, I shouldn't answer..............but I'm going to anyway! :P
To me, it's the 'university' types who assume everyone who hasn't been to university or hasn't travelled round the world is in fact stupid. The trouble with that though, is that the majority of these 'university types' is that most of them can't even tie their own shoe-laces or open an envelope.
I use the words 'university types' as it seems to be them who do it the most.
I don't think it's ok to judge anyone on the way they look because all too often, that first impression is incorrect. Remember, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Thank you dear. I know what you mean about University Types. At college, we called them "Oxford Types" because there were actually quite a lot of decent college people who went on to uni! However, the Oxford type doesn't always assume others are dim just because they haven't had the "right" education.
I was referring more to those who actually are stupid and couldn't even spell university. I have noticed it is them who tend to assume I am stupid. I can't say I've had it from university types. Perhaps it's because the university types I have known knew me well enough to know I had the potential to do whatever they could do even if I had chosen not to.

Even people who know I'm not stupid (or at least ought to know) are like that with me sometimes. It seems there are some people who immediately assume I'm stupid but I don't know why.
Just today someone made a comment which suggested that they didn't believe I could have achieved the things I was talking to her about. The worst thing being that I know this person is not very bright. She knows that my children are clever (at least she knows one of them is) but doesn't seem to understand that that is down to me because I am clever. I feel sorry for people like that in a way. You know the sort, they have below average children but think they are really clever and look for comparisons where their children come out on top.
