What is going on?

My 15 year son just came home from school and informed that would be getting a phone call to let us know rather or not they would have a regular schedule at school tomorrow because of all the fighting today? It seems that the students at school started arguing about our new president and it it turned into an all out brawl through out the entire school. There were 147 total students sent home today, suspended or talking to the police because of the fighting. My son thankfully was not involved in any of this but was sent to the gym with the rest of the school untill school was dimissed because the teachers could not control the situation, one teacher was actually hit by a student! My son told me if asked what he thought about the election he lied (he was pulling for Obama) and said he did not care either way because he was afraid of what would happen to him. I cannot believe this is happening and just one day after the election? What is wrong with people? has anyone else had anything like this happen to them today?

This is unreal.
Any explanation as to the reasons for the fighting?
Was it racially motivated or not?
I think this is going way too far no matter the reason(s) for the fighting.
Kids in scholl fighting over the election results is unheard of.
What are are you in anyhow?
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob
We are in N.C so we are still unsure of who won here in out state and I thought that might be the argument yesterday but no from the understanding I am getting now it was cacially motivated, which is so very sad.

My son told me that all the black students at school were all walking around saying how now they are going to be the superior race since Obama won. He said it did get a little out of control, but no physical fights. They were treating all the other students like they were superior to them and pushing them out of the way in the halls, cutting in the lunch lines ect. I couldn't believe this! I am wondering what these parents are teaching these children for them to act like this over a new president.

The thing with these kids is that they were all friends...black, white, yellow, whatever...all of them got along as equals. Now these students are ranting about how they are superior...I think it has to have stemmed from the homes. I think its' sad that they would act like this.

Thats kind of what happened at my childs school yesterday except some of the white children did not take it to well and it started a huge fight, The teacher that got hit was hit because a black student and a white student were fighting and she was trying to stop it.

I was really wondering if I would hear about some conflicts occuring due to the election results, but did not expect it to happen among children! Honestly I am a little surprised. I know kids will fight about anything, but that it would turn into an all-out brawl is insane. I haven't heard about things like that happening in my area, though I have been a bit busy with things to watch the news, other than some of the election coverage.

Yes that is very good news for the school and any of the kids who may have hurt my child because that school will go above and beyond to keep me from coming in there. Anytime they see me coming they get nervous, I do not play when it comes to my children.

there no need to fight.who will be the president is decised by the people .and the rusult is fair, dont argue about that.let the life be quite and keep the old situation again.and obama just for he is a black man ,but he is a good and has a leadership to manage the whole country.do believe the man, everything will be ok....

I agree, but its hard to explain that to a group of teens!

Thats terrible!
But I guess with the mass media attention it is hard for kids not to get involved in it. And kids usually argue and bicker about lots of things anyway. This just happens to be a more 'adult' topic that they have little information on but feel important throwing around to thier friends.
Despite this, the children's reactions seem very over the top. Obviously everyone was getting very passionate and heated up!

Hi Fire,
wow....that is very sad! We don't have any problem here but we have some school who were having also an activity like casting their votes inside their classroom!
ANyway, hopefully this will be given attention and parents of those students will help the teachers to remind them that in this life we always have to play sport and not ending up violent and harming other people!

I believe my sons school was doing the same thing last week? I still have not got all the details from my son or his friends yet but either way something went terribly wrong today.

Not today. My son did come home one day and said that some girl had called him a bad word and then a jerk for making a comment about politics. Actually she insulted the candidate we were voting for first, and everyone who was voting for that candidate. My son shot back in defence, and she called him an fing jerk, and I am talking about a 6th grader here. I am glad the kids are interested in politics, but that is getting quite a bit out of hand, and what happened at your son's school today is rediculas. This election was one of the most heated ones I have ever experienced, perhaps America's youth need a little education on how to be good Americans, living under this united nation. I do hope they fix what went on that school.

That is really sad, that children will find anything to fight about. What is the world coming to when people are afraid to admit who they voted for, in fear that they will be attacked. Your son did the right thing by lying in order to avoid a conflict, the sad part is that he had. Everyone, will never agree on everything, but fighting each other surely is not the solution.

Yes it is sad, The really sad part is this is a high school and some of the kids involved in this were 18 years old, they should no better!

Still not sure what started all the fighting, but I assume there were a few kids not happy with the outcome of the election and they must have let it be known?
