We have witnessed history last night. Barack Obama, a black man, was elected President of the United States. This is to the joy of the majority of people across the nation, including quite a few people of the Electoral College. But for the few that didn't believe that Barack would be a good president, those that thought another candidate would have done a better job, this news comes to their dismay.
Like it or not, Obama is now OUR president. Not just those who voted for him, but everyone in the United States. So now everyone should be asking themselves, what should we do now? Each American citizen has a responsibility to building the US back to what it once was. Obama may be President, but that doesn't mean that he is the be all and the end all for the United States. He answers to every one of us, we are his bosses. What we should do as citizens is keep a close eye on what programs he creates and makes available, and taking part in the ones we qualify. Since he is going to create jobs, we should be ready and able to take those jobs. Since he is making education available, we should be prepared to take part in that.
In short, all Obama's efforts will be for naught if we don't take action as citizens, and use them to the best of our ability, so that we can come together and make this nation, and the world a better place. So, now that Barack Obama is President, what do you plan to do about it?

I was originally for Obama, but things happened to change my mind, and I voted McCain/Palin.
I am, however an American, and I firmly believe in our system. I honestly was hoping that this was the time for a co-presidency - for the first time that I can remember - there was more good than bad being said by both candidates, and the popular vote was WAY close!
So anyway, I'm hoping for the best - as I would have been doing if it had gone the other way - we just never know until the guy moves in, do we?
I think that no matter what - we all need to step up and not expect ANY government to "bail us out". This did not all happen because one person was in office - it happened because we don't get involved enough or help each other out.
I'm very guilty myself - I've been so focused on my own woes for the last few years...I realize that I was not seeing the other places I could have been

You are so right Red. Obama being President isn't an instant cure all, nor is it impending doom. Even though Obama is Commander In Chief, he has bosses; every last American Citizen in this country. We have to work together in order for change to happen. Voting in Obama was a start, but that isn't the only thing that needs to happen. We all need to get involved in the betterment of this country.

Yes. I voted for Barack because I felt that he would put things in the right direction. He would make things better for all people of the United States, not just the wealthy. Bush effectively eliminated the Middle Class with war spending, and tax cuts for the wealthy. Now the world sees that you have to help all, because if you just help the already wealthy, the money never trickles down. Instead the money dries up and everyone loses.

I voted for McCin but I hope that Obama can follow through with all his promises. You say. He answers to every one of us, we are his bosses. I really believe this is true not just for The president for the senate and congree too.
What we should do as citizens is keep a close eye on what programs he creates and makes available, and taking part in the ones we qualify. What program are you talking about?

Since he is going to create jobs, we should be ready and able to take those jobs. [/i]I believe that we should start looking for our own opretunituies and we as private citizans should and can create our own jobs.
Since he is making education available, we should be prepared to take part in that. Education is already avaiable.
In short, all Obama's efforts will be for naught if we don't take action as citizens, and use them to the best of our ability. we need to stop looking for the government to take care of us.

That I agree with. I've said it many times, and Obama has said it in his acceptance speech. To get the United States back on track will take longer than a year, maybe even longer than a term. But I am glad that we have someone that will fight to put things in the right direction.

Yes, the government is beholden to every one of us as voting American Citizens. We have to stand up and take more notice of this fact. They certainly will listen now, because it was not listening to the people that got this nation where it is now.
I wasn't talking about any programs in particular. During his campaign he said that he would be coming out with many programs for the middle class, and small business. The only way these things will help the economy is if we take advantage of them as they are made available. And to do that we must keep an eye on these programs, see what is available to us, and take advantage of them as we can.
Yes, we can create our own opportunities. But what is the harm in taking jobs that are made available by plans Obama put into place. I'm not saying to sit back and wait for these jobs to be created, but when they are we shouldn't just sit on our hands either.
Yes, education is available. But the plans that Obama promised to put into place will make them more available and more of a viable option to more people. Those are the people that should take advantage of those programs and get the education they need to become productive, or even more productive citizens.
Taking action on the programs that Obama will put forth is not asking, nor looking for the government to take care of us. It is moreso to take care of the US, and world economy. If there are programs that will help a person to get the training they need, to get their small business started, or even to get a job that will pay enough to take care of their families, this is helping a person to become self-sufficient; as opposed to going to the county for assistance with food, money, health care, etc. That is really looking for the government to take care of someone.

All your points are well taken. Now if everyone will
band together and do them.I feel this will not happen,
some will go against everything he tries to do.
This is not good for our Country, coming to together
and supporting our President is what needs to be
done,We need to support him on what is good for
our Country and let him know what we feel about
what is not good for it.

I hope those that are against Barack Obama stay in the very small minority. Going against everything that he tries to do won't hurt him, it will hurt the American citizens.
This is why I wrote this discussion. During the election I read all types of negative and sometimes hateful things about Barack Obama. These people are entitled to their own opinions, but now is the time to put those aside. Obama won, so now is the time to band together and fix the mess that Bush left. We have already seen how a nation divided is. We were divided over the war, we were divided over tax policy for the last 8 years. Now we face something that the news is calling everything but a depression, which really it is. We have to band together and support our President. To let him know what is wrong and what needs to be fixed for all. If we don't, things can only get worse.

I wish everybody had the same thinking you do...but instead of moving on, they persist in "whining" about why Obama shouldn't have been elected as OUR new president. In my opinion, anything was a step up from Bush. But, instead of being concerned about the new president, time should be put into choosing the House of Representatives. They are the people who mainly "make" the rules. The president can veto, but it's not on him. We are the United States of America, and we are the people, not just Barack Obama. This country is a democracy, voice of the people, and we should take full advantage, as you have said, and work with our new president. Let's get on with our lives and help make this country strong once again.

You said it all right there Trell. There is no reason to whine and complain about Obama being President. The people and the Electoral College made their choice. Majority rules. Now is the time to seek out what we can do as individuals to help repair our country.
BTW, liking the new 'do and the glasses gurl!!!

Now it is back to business, and let Obama take charge of things. Each man and woman has an important role to play. Do your bit.

I think that the United States has finally taken the step that they needed to to make sure that the country is back on track. I am excited that he won and I am proud to be part of the decision that led to Obama being elected! I hope that the people embrace him and help him to make this economy get on a track that will lead back to people having the American dream.

Amen! Well said! I totally agree with you. It was time for a change and a change is good. Theres a lot of mad people here in Louisiana. Some parts of Louisiana and the south are still prejudice and they need to get over it. They just can't get over it that a Black man will be over the US. I'm very proud that we have such a great, smart intelligent man as President that is loved by many all over the world. Obama will get the US back on the right track.

I totally agree! We should all step up and be glad that at least Bush is going to be history, so we can start a new period of USA life! I think that the people who are disappointed in the outcome of this election are going to have a week or so to be disappointed, but then we have to move right along.

Right. This is one thing we can agree on, that we are finally out from under that goofy man's rule!!!
I hope that the people who were voting for others aren't too disappointed. That won't change anything. Besides, its our voices that Obama has to listen to. He has to do what's best for the people of the United States, first and foremost. If these people who didn't believe that Obama should have been president continue to complain instead of speaking up when its time, Obama won't have much good effect on the nation.
