Should it be illegal to own a pitbull? do you think they are naturally dangerous animals? I personally think that they can be nice if you raise them correctly.

I do not think having a pitbull should be against the law. Just like humans, the same is with pitbulls their aggressiveness is learned behavior. Pitbulls have a bad rap, because a lot of people that own them train them to be vicious. My husband's son has a pitbull, and he is the most loving, gentle dog you would ever see.

I've worked with dogs for a long time, and I'm personally more intimidated by a toy poodle than a pit bull. I don't own a pit bull and never have- but if one ended up on my doorstep I would not turn it away- they're not bad dogs, it's just that the breed has gotten a bad reputation since many have landed in the hands of idiots.

I agree. Pitbulls are actually good-natured it's only when they are trained to be mean is my understanding. I've known some great pit bulls.. so know it shouldn't be illegal.
(Sometimes part of the problem may be that people in general are afraid of them and the dogs may react to that.)

I do not think that pitbulls should be illegal. But I do think that you should have to go through a course or something to own one. I have owned one and she was so sweet. She just adored my kids, and they did alot of things to her (jumping on her, pulling ears) and she did not care. I mean we cared and gave them trouble when they did it but she did not care. It is definately some of the owners that mess them up not the breed themselves.

I do not think that owning a pitbull should be against the law. The problem is with the owner not the dog. According the UKC breed stanard, American Pitbul Terriors (apbt) should think that every human is their best friend. In the forties, they were consider the nanny dog. The dog on Little Rascals was a pitbull; Helen Keller had a pitbull. When a breed gets into the wrong hands, that is when it because a problem. To many people own them that do not do any research on the breed. Yes, apbt are known to be dog aggressive. It is in the geneic make-up. But then again the do not need doggy friends, they just need the companionship of their owners. What really gets me, is that people confuse dog aggression with human aggression. They are two different things. Okay, rant done.

NO. Foolish people need to stop banning breeds and creating crazed fears. it just becomes a vicious circle.
These dogs that are being persecuted are the result of BAD people not BAD dogs. AND
I think something she be done to the people -create a fear of them so they become unwanted members of any community and not place the blame on the dogs.
Any dog can be dangerous. There are more bites associated with little dogs than bigger ones- people just dont report how many chihuahuas or whatever have bitten them. But the media create such a frenzy when a big dog or one of their specific breeds they like to target does it.
I have met some of the most friendly pit bulls- that don't even know what it is like to have a mean bone in their body.. because they were raised and trained and socialized correctly.
I say we ban the stupid people that do this to those poor dogs to live on an island - far from civilization. because they are not civilized beings!
