What makes a friend?

In your opinion, what constitutes a friend?
For me it is somebody that you can trust and somebody that genuinely cares about you.

somebody who will listen to you when you are down
somebody who will tell you the truth even when its not what you want to hear.
also a friend is somebody to have fun with and somebody who will help you out when you need.
a true friend will always go that extra mile for you and not want anything in return.
well thats what i think a friend means.
