I think Bill Russell is the greatest center of all time because of the 11 championships he won with the Celtics. He didn't score as much as famous centers but he had the greatest defense of them all. Also Bill Russell averaged over 22 rebounds a game for his career which is second most in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlin. Who knows though the NBA is definitly more competitive now compared to the 60s when Russell played so he probably would not be as good now but still would be great. What do you think?

how about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar..his skyhook shot was unstoppable and although you could argue that Bill Rusell and Shaq are more dominant,my case rests in his production..he is the nba's all time scoring leader and was a big contributor even late in his career(see the Showtime Lakers)..the 42 year old was the starting center of the 88 Lakers for crying out loud..can you imagine Shaq playing up to 42 and still having an impact..he played 20 seasons in the NBA,won six MVPs,two Finals MVPs and a six time champion

Yes Bill Russell has more accomplishments and awards but he always had an excellent team behind him. Wilt Chamberlain never had all that great of a team behind him and he was usually a one man show. I personally think that Wilt Chamberlain is better because he was the definition of a one man wrecking crew. I also don't know of any other player in NBA history to average fifty points a game for a whole season or score one hundred points in a game.

Nobody else never averaged 50 ppg or scored 100 in a game but Chamberlin. Also though no one player has ever won a championship without any type of help from his other players. Russell found his part in defense and rebounding while the other Celtics took care of most of the scoring. The main thing was Russell knew how to win with his team and personally I think he was a smarter player compared to Chamberlin.
