Couch Covers?

I am sure all pet owners have seen the couch covers at stores.
These can be very costly to buy for your couch and love seat and chair.
I just use old sheets that no lonegr are used on my bed.
It isn't very fancy looking nor uniform in appearance, but serves the purpose none the less. They are on the furniture to make it easier to clean up flying fur from My Buster as he sheds during the year. Do you have any type of cover on your furniture to protect it from your pets? Or do you vaacuum the furniture each time you do the rest of the house?

No I don't have covers on my furniture. I don't vacuum the furniture each time either. I have some of those pet hair roller things, the lint roller things. They work real good, you roll and pick up then peel off the sheet of it and throw it away and you have a new clean one ready.

I've seen the couch covers, and they are expensive. Like you, I just use old sheets that I don't put on the bed to cover the couch, and like you said, it isn't fancy looking, but it serves its purpose. I'm not protecting the couch from pets, but from anybody that sits on it, its a new couch, and I want to keep it looking new and clean. I don't like having to vaccum the furniture all the time.

Yeah costly as heck.
$50 to $100 for a cheap cover.
Then I need a love seat, couch, and chair cover.
I am not spending $400 or so.
I'll use the sheets or lock him up.
Well he seldom gets locked up.

Hi Again, Grandpa Bob,
The sheets are a really good idea. We used to have a towel spread over Anna Belle's favourite couch cushion, but not anymore. I found that her hair would get embedded at the back of the towel, and somehow it would slip between the cushion and the couch. It seemed to make more of a hairy mess, so now I just use the special brush. I'm glad she mostly likes to sleep on my bed though, during the day. She does also like to sleep beneath tables, and so the carpet has to be vacuumed often. Take care.

Another mylotter told how they use sheets to cover their furniture to protect it and they took it off when company came, which I found to be a grand idea however, I haven't gotten around to doing it myself as I've been so busy that sometimes I can't think straight. lol Some day my mind will catch up.... some day. But in the meantime, when I clean house, I vacuum the furniture to get the hairs off.

My couch is kind of a rough texture and my cat loves to use it for a scratching post, so I cover it with a sheet. I really should cover the love seat and chair too to make cleaning up the shed hair easier, but I just use a piece of masking tape wrapped around my hand most of the time to take the hair up. The furniture only gets vacuumed once every week or so.

Mine is that smooth velvety type material.
Fur sticks to it very easily.
Hence the coverings all the time.
Buster has way too much flying fur.
I'd use a few rolls of masking/duct tape to clean it.

Hi Grandpa Bob...
I cover my furniture with old sheets or a blanket..That way I don't have to worry about the dogs being on it...
I have tried the ones you buy and they just don't fit right.....and they are expensive.....
I vacuum the furniture when I switch covers to wash the others...
Looks don't matter around here...Comfort is the key...

Me and my husband have 2 cat's and we have two slip covers over our sofa and loveseat. Also since my son love's to spill his drinks sometimes on the sofa it's pretty handy to have slip covers because I just have to remove them when they are dirty with cat hair or juice then toss it in the washer. Me and my husband brought our slip covers 4 years ago at Target for about $30 dollars each, kinda pricey but they serve there purpose and keep the sofa pretty clean for the most part ( juice stains still seep threw regardless with slip covers or not.) But our sofa and love seat look great because the slip covers look great even after weekly cleaning, they are also very durable.

We don't have couch covers, but Zoe is way too big to get up on the furniture and the only time the fur gets bad is when she sheds her winter coat, and even then when she sheds, it is the middle of the room, not by the couch..

Buster sheds all year long it seems.
So covers are needed desperately.
He gets on the furniture but mostly when I am not around.
He knows not to be on it but...

That is why kennels are good, keeps dogs from doing things while we are gone...But, if I had a small beagle like Buster, I probably would use a cover, for only a certain chair for the dog, that way I can sit with him..:)

I have never found a couch cover that looks perfect, but I bet that they are out there and they are expensive. Right now we have 2 old sheets on the couch to protect the upholstery.
I have 4 kids and a cat so they always spill stuff or get crumbs in the cushion, or drop crayons in between the cushions. Not to mention the cat fur.
So when it starts to look dingy I pull it up and the crayons, etc. get picked out and put in the tub. Then I shake all the crumbs and fur outside on the lawn and pop it in the washer and dryer. That way the couch looks new still and we can remove the sheets when company comes over.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

That's what you do, protect your furntiture with something. It makes perfect sense to do so. I think I will go out and get some slipcovers tomorrow. Thanks for the great tip!

Hi Grandpa Bob, I have leather furniture or wooden chairs that way no covers are necessary and sticky hand prints or muddy paws can just be wiped away, bliss. The only covers I have are snuggle blankets which I put over us if it gets chilly. Sheets are a great idea though for material suites. Huggles. Ellie :D

These are also due to dad.
But dad has gotten so lazy he has not bewen on the couch or love seat in a couple years. He can't get up once he sits on them. Very cushy type of furniture. One sinks in it when you sit on it.

I have an old king size blanket for one of my couches because the couch is dirty. It is make of some material that will not attract the dog or cat hair. The couch is a hide a way bed/couch so I use it when I have company. I just bought a carpet shampooer and will try to clean the couch soon.

Hello there well my mother bought fabric and some elastic measured the couches and went to a friend who made covers for all our couches (1 - 3seater 1 love seat and a one seater) for about 200... she went to the thrift store and bought bed sheets... washed them and took them to the lady. the lady got 200 out of it and my mom saved her couches lol... our issue wasnt pets rather kids. (my siblings and neighbors alike..)

no way!!!!!!! it is incredibly easy to vacum the hair/ fur off f your furniture whenever you vacum your house. plus, think about it, would you rather sit on a regular couch, or a couch with plastic on top of it. and if you are planning to take off the cover when you sit down....isnt that a huge hassle?

I used to have a pet and I did infact use couch covers. I prefer sitting on the real seat but I would buy cool couch covers and designs and change them often. This adds a different touch from time to time. I also cuddled up with my dog quite a bit on the couch so the covers really helped protect it and keep it in good shape. If I was to get a new pet, I would definitely invest in couch covers.
