Did you know you cannot "paste"?

...as in "cut and paste" until you have a rating of 500 on site? I recently wrote a comment and wanted to "spell check" the word eulogy....so I cut and pasted it into word and then tried to put it BACK onsite. A pop up came up which informed me I didn't have a high enough rating to do so. Not a bad thing either IMHO, too many people ruin sites such as mylot with a ton of "cut/paste" comments that they simply alter to fit any question. What do YOU think of this rule onsite? And for those of you veterans...how long does it take to get that ever elusive 500 rating and what sort of part should I throw when I meet that goal?....is white tie and tails required or is it a semi-casual event?

Yes you are correct. I got my copy and paste option last week after 500 discussions. It is useful as you can write your discussions on note pad before hand and use it to check spelling and things.
It took me a week to reach 500 discussions. I was on here too much that week though. I have been here two weeks tomorrow and I love it. Happy mylotting to you. Will chat soon.

I also didn't know that and i found out the hard way....lol. I had typed my discussion in words so as to spell check and all and while pasting here i got the message. So i had to retype everything, but i took it as a challenge though and i'm now determine to reach the 500 ratings. Cheers from a determined myloter.
Somethings else, i was trying to add MyLotCode Emotes to this comments and got the message "Comment contains MyLotCode Emotes. You can only use those after you have reached a rank of 200" lol. Did you know this one? lol

I go for the semi-casual look .. lol You are right thou it seems to take forever to get to that 500 mark! I just reached mine today. You will get it either slow and steady or fast and furious! Mine was more slow and steady.. lol
I was shocked the first time I got that little pop up, would have been useful posting from news sites on some rebuttals and to give a few sites to some people.
Good luck in reaching the goal!

thanks Ithink! I do believe I'll shoot for that semi-casual party as well....I'll be sure to put you on the guest list! Remember, nothing that itches, scratches or otherwise irritates...this is a party that is planned for fun! And CONGRATS on your meeting 500! Don't get too far ahead of me...I'm working my way there!

Yep, that kind of stinks, eh? I went to copy and paste something today and got the pop up too. I've been here for over a month and a half and can't believe that some people have reached 500 in a week. Wow, that is impressive. Wish I had that kind of time and patience! Good luck to you reaching the 500!

Yes, I did know that. And I think that it is a little bit ridiculous to have to wait QUITE that long. All I wanted to do was share my poetry, and instead of the 5 seconds that it would have taken to copy/paste, I had to spend 25+ minutes retyping all of it! I'd like to think that most of us are not interested in "abusing" the system here. I would certainly hope so, anyway! But, oh well, it is what it is.
It took me more than a week to get 500 posts. But then, I am easily frustrated. *LOL* :) Happy myLotting! :)

I didn't think about posting some of my work I have in files....I guess I'll wait until I get 500 since I am a bit concerned about retyping all those files. As much as I enjoy the site, I don't want to have to rework my writings quite that much! Thanks for the heads up....I appreciate it!

hey come on now she is just asking a simple question, at least share your experiance with her. As for me, I waiting to get to 500 post then 1000, not for any reason in particular. I guess I'm just trying to see how many post I can post in a short period of time. =] happy mylotting and have a nice day.

Thank you Thorn679 for your note. I was caught unawares when I discovered I could not cut/paste. As it was mentioned by others, sometimes it's nice to be able to write in word and then cut/paste it to the site. No problem though, I can handle waiting until I get 500 and maybe by that time, my writing habits will change too...one never knows.

Aevelor, I think the same way you do. I became so frustrated and upset over spammers on other sites I've been a member of and especially angry when I managed sites and it happened there too. Mylots seems to have some great management and even better structure. To me, it's worth any extra typing I may encounter to get those 500. IMHO, 500 seems like it might just slow down or even stop the spammers as writing 500 unique posts is not only time consuming but most likely frustrating for those who are here for less than good reasons.

Yes, you can't paste before you reach a minimum of 500 posts. It had started long ago when I am a member. I have been around for over 2 years and I think by doing this mylot encourages us be concerned about originality and be familiar with the principals of mylot. When we reach 500 posts, most of us are already familiar with the idea of posting in this community.
When you reach 500 posts, only copy and paste when it is very important to do so. Don't simply copy and paste from other sites because sooner or later they will get to it and it will only bring disadvantages to you. You may be banned or your earnings be cut off.
Just be yourself, don't offend others to the extreme, be polite as much as you can and for me I just use my own style. You don't have to be 100% formal in here. The key is being honest and be yourself.

I think you are right and annoying as it can be, I think Mylot made a good choice. I have worked member management on a number of sites and had people "playing the system" for points/prizes and payoffs by making files of comments and simply cutting/pasting the same "hey, have a great day! This was a neat post!" sort of comments for hours. They racked up the points/payments like crazy and ruined it for a lot of members not to mention, drove the quality of the site into the toilet. No more of that for me. Comment sites are a nice thing but IMHO if you have to cheat to make money there, you really should look into working for Mickey D's instead...less hassle and I hear they still give you discounted meals! LOL

Hello, it took more than a month for me to reach the 500th mark. I don't find the cut and paste option very helpful in earning money though because I rarely put stuff from the internet here. It helps only when I feel that the connection is bad and I copy my discussions or response while waiting for the page to load in case it doesn't load properly so I can re-paste it properly.

thanks mimico...I probably won't use it a lot either but it would be nice to be able to use it to copy for example someone's user name. Some of the monikers on mylot are so unique that I worry about getting them "right" and cut/paste would be a great option!

In this case i support mylot decision. This is because if they dont put that rule there may chances that discussions which are created in some forums copy pasted in this forum. If that happens the value of the discussions and the entertainment will come down.

I experienced the same thing. I'm still working hard to get permission to cut and paste but I know I'll eventually get there. At least it motivates us to be more creative and participative

Natsvelascotan, we'll work towards that 500 together! LOL It really isn't as easy as it sounds, is it? It's funny, sometimes I get so interested in reading posts that I forget to comment or rate....and I need to get into the habit of doing so I guess!

i am going to don a dickie bow when i get there lol.

i didnt understand why but now i do it.
its too stop people from cutting and pasting endless babble.
its ok though i have got endless babble without the cut and paste function lol.

lou_66....a "dickie bow" huh? Sounds intersting to me...I might be able to find some glitz I wore years ago when I worked operas but I REFUSE to dig out those 5" heels that went with the outfits! They hurt like the dickens then and even though they looked pretty good, they aren't something this rapidly aging body wants to endure...CROCS are good enough for me!

I too found out about that like you did but not for spell check but to check something else. I usually also like to compose in Notepad so that if I lose connection or something happens when submitting I do not have to type the long post all over again. I do use Firefox however and it has a spell check built right in, you just have to make sure it is enabled.
I think the amount of posts I do it will take me a couple of months to get to 500, at least I am almost half way there now though.

Yes, I knew it that I cannot copy and paste. Sometimes it really annoys me, you know, sometimes we fell from the line and there is a post is sending, but we cannot copy and paste so we can only type it again and sometimes it is long, so...
So now I am keeping on posting for copying and posting, haha...

Yes, you are correct, you cannot cut and paste until you reach the 500 rating. When you are able to cut and paste you should abide by the time honoured rule to give credit where credit is due. In other words you should refer to the link from where you got the information or to the original author. It is funny how veterans often can tell if something is plagiarized. Also if you read the Mylot guidelines milestone discussions such as "Hurray I reached 500" are against the rules and may be removed by the administration. Other than that this is a great site. I hope you will have lots of fun, make friends and earn a few pennies to boot.

Yes!! You cannot copy and paste comments or responses in discussions until you reached 500 posts/rating. It is only awarded to mylotters that have reached that amount and rating.
Sure it is quite annoying, but think about it, to actually post more than 500 comments here, is a really commendable thing. And besides, it's already written in mylot's FAQ about copy and pasting in responses.
If you're able to copy and paste responses, you're able to earn more and this site would totally be trash because everyone would probably copy and paste as much as they wants and can.
I really like the site's rule because it at least gives the seniors here a better option, and also that the site recognizes people that actually are active here in mylot. (I've been a member for more than 2 years.. but never really active until recently)
So to me, if you're active enough in mylot, you would probably get it in a few months as long as you post at least 5 responses a day!
Since I'm quite sporadic in my responses depending on the discussions, I think it would take me about a month's plus more since I'm only about 400 plus now.. And since I'm more active in the site.. :) I was about 200 when I went inactive a year ago.. And I only started posting again a month or so ago.. So don't worry! You'll get there in a few months susiejwp!! Just post at least 5 post a day!!
Well, good luck in this! Have a great day! Take Care!

Yep you are right you can't copy and paste until you have reached 500 posts. Mylot has that rule to try to keep spam down. Plus some people don't know the rules to copy and paste like if you want to paste an artcile off the internet only post part of the artice and give the link to the site you have to give the origanal authour credit for it. Then give you own opinion on it.
