I was just sitting here reading the bible and can across Leviticus 19:28 which says
"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD"
My confusion comes in where I was raised saying it is completely wrong to get a tatto but as I read the passage I read in your flesh for the dead! does that mean you can get a tattoo as long as it isn't for the dead? If you have a tattoo can you be saved and go to heaven?

Heaven is not a physical appearance it is a spiritual one. In the bible it says that the old flesh will drop and rise to cease the everlasting prize. What one should understand is that when you confess your sins God will forgive you of all what you have done before. So when you baptized you bury your sin and raise as a new person in Christ. Things that you used to do you will cease in doing. So when you are baptized you will not put a tattoo on your skin because the word of God says 'Your Body is the Temple of the Lord".

To get a ticket to heaven you have repent of your sin and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That's really all that is required.
Then, if you DO love the Lord, there will be certain things that happen to transform your life. You'll want to start behaving differently. You'll want to know the Lord more. You'll have a hunger for more Jesus.
You'll also want to help other people.
Good works are not required, but they are a result of loving the Lord.

According to some said above, everyone can go to heaven? Let's see what JESUS says in the BIBLE, Who can go to Heaven - "Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." [Matthew 7:21]. Also here in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
This scripture does not ban tattoos, but it does bring up the question as to why a person wants to get a tattoo and which tattoos to get. As with some sin it is not the act but the intent that matters. If the act of getting tattoo is rebellion against parents, authority, etc. – then it is a sin!
Remember, you are supposed to be in the world, not of the world. While many tattoos are beautiful, they tend to honor the world rather than God.
Getting a tattoo is something that should not be taken lightly. It is a well-debated issue in the Christian community, and there are differing opinions as to whether a tattoo is sinful or not. As a Christian, decisions need to be made with your eyes on God.
So decision is in YOUR own Hand. Let us Shine forth for our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST. GOD BLESS!

The bible ca be interpreted in so many ways. For the time, thousands of years ago, what was seen as "law" could be taken a whole different way today.
I know many Christians with tattoos. One friend from church admits to having been a bit "bad" in his youth. But when he turned his life over and was saved his whole world changed. He had tattoos from before, and has gotten two new ones..a cross on one arm, and his daughter's name and birth day on the other.
I feel it is how you live your life, and not how you look which will get you into heaven.

this is a hard thing to know for sure. no were in the 10 commandments does it say tho shalt not get a tattoo. and to be saved from god you must follow the ten commandments. prophets have said not to get tattoo's and this is a message from the lord. But never did you harm anyone for it. What if you never knew the teachings of the bible until you already had a tattoo the lord wont punish them. well i would hope not because he is is forgiving. I have to tattoo's and .i believe in the three kingdoms hell with the loard and the middle were not every one was perfect but no one killed anyone or molested anyone. so i believe thoes who have tattoo's will still know heaven. but if its satanic then maybe not because thats just like worshiping the devin and not our lord

Hi jyaegel,
The only way you can get into the Kingdom of heaven is by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. He forgives anyone who is truly sorry for their sins. I'm not saying that a tatoo is a sin. I personally would not get one, but God does not look on the outward appearance as man usually does. He looks on the heart.
Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by Me."
God bless!

I believe that a person CAN go to heaven with a tattoo. That God would not be that "picky", which is a poor choice of words, but for lack of a better one!!

You can be saved and go to heaven if you have a tattoo, and on the other side you can be saved and get a tattoo and still get to heaven. I have three tattoos and I am a minister. I have one on my lower back that I designed, then a cross on my calf and a faerie on my shoulder holding a blue ribbon for prostate cancer and then a green one on her ankle for hodgkins disease:Lymphoma...I had lymphoma and my uncle had prostate.
It doesn't matter that you have tattoos on your body. As long as you have accepted Jesus into your life and heart.

Whoa that's deep! I totally believe that you can still go to heaven if you have a tattoo. I wouldn't see why a tattoo is what gods basis's you on considering that he judges you on your actions and what you do with yourself and amog to others not what you put on your body.

But, if as some believe only our soul goes on to the afterlife, and the shell (body) stays here..then the tattoo would be staying behind with the physical shell.
I mean, could "no marks upon you" also be interpreted as no makeup, piercings (ok technically not a printed mark but a cutting into the flesh).
I feel it could be interpreted as more than just tatoos.

Yup a boy with a tattoo can go to heaven. Because man will go to heaven not by works but by grace, the bible says that you will be save by grace and not by your works so that no one can boast. You get it?. THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT BE PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE (John 3:16). You see all you have to do is to believe GOD and you will be save everlasting life is on heaven. But then how can you show GOD that you believe in him? Simply by doing his good works.

I think that this is just a point of perspective. Some might say that it is damaging the temple thing. Others might say that it is art and it's just decorating the temple....lol I like the ladder of the two.
