Okay so maybe this should be in the frugality section but as for it being a question, I figured i'd put it here. How do you save money? I mean besides getting cheaper groceries, limiting your trips, and recycling things... How do you save your money? How do you keep from spending it? Do you have a schedule as to when to use it? If so, has it worked for you?

I think the key to this is to plan your budget smartly. Try to review back the expenses in the last month, and find out which item that can be cut from the incoming months. Try to put a priority on your budget. For me, I can't tolerate to cut the cost on foods, so I will definitely limits my trips including shopping and vacation. When receive the salary, try allocate some amount for saving and separate it first from the rest of others. So far this trick work for me, and I still managed to fill my "piggybank" every month. The failure to plan will make us suffer.

Yes, I think that planning is a very good thing and without it you may just be in more debt then you can handle. I also like your idea of looking back on the last month's purchases to see if you could limit those things as well. I do not think that there is any harm in limiting your spending money on food, but just because you limit it doesn't mean you starve. People often buy things from the grocers they don't need, and when they get home it stays in the cabinets or it is eaten way too fast and then you want more! I am very much appreciative of your response!

It's funny how spending, often seen as the key to atleast a happy day, can also be saved and then your even more happy! I don't go out to eat that much with my fiance, but when we do we don't spend that much money at all. As for shopping, only if we're really going to use it! I'm glad it works for you, and also that it makes you feel happy that you saving! Continue to save! Have a Great Day!

Hi there Cowgirl. You will find this a bit funny but when i am determined not to spend money i simply take no cash with me - i know this is not the greatest solution, but if you don't have money, you can't spend them, right ? As for saving in general, me and my girl like to save money for our summer vacation, so we have a saving account at a bank where we have 0 fees and 8,25% interest, so that helps us well.

Yes it's not the best plan but I am sure it works, although I know I'd be more apt to go back out for something I found I like. I'm glad you have such a high interest savings account, I have way 2 save at a bank, and it's basically a debit card transfer to savings. $1.00 up to $300.00 for every purchase.

First of all, I rarely carry cash which cuts down on impulse spending. Since I shop for groceries sometimes at a Super Walmart I avoid the areas of the store that my list does not require me to go to...if I don't see it, I won't know what I'm missing out on. I also take advantage of direct deposit at work and have a specific amount automatically deposited into our savings account...so I don't see it and don't miss it.

The bank that I go to offers way 2 save, so that up to $300 I can make purchases with debit and get a $1.00 into my account from every purchase. I thought that debit would work for me, but quite the contrary, cash works more for me as I see it as a "if it's not in the wallet, I spent too much" type of thing. I am glad that that way works for you, although I do like the "don't go to certain sections of the store" thing as I know has to work! I appreciate the response!
