In big cities charcoal and fire woods are not familiar. I know some of the people here do not know these things. Most of the people now are using liquefied petroleum gas or LPG. But LPG is very expensive. Before this is what we were using but because the price of LPG is too high, we decided to stop using it. Now, in our lodging house, we are using charcoal in cooking. It is really a burden on our part but I can save a little amount because it is not that expensive. In our house, we are using firewoods because it's free. You can find it anywhere. It's not a hassle. But after cooking, you need to wash your face and your hands because of many dirts. I really love using LPG in cooking because it is very easy to use. How I wish the prices of LPG will go down. As what I have heard from the news, there are rollbacks but the rollbacks are too little. It is still expensive. I do not know the time when we will stop using charcoal and firewoods. Do you know how to cook using firewoods or charcoal? Or are you familiar with these things?

I used to use charcoal and firewood whenever we go to grandma house. It was nice to see her still using the firewood even though the is a gas stove to cook with. She says this cause she want the flavor of certain kind of food to be mix with the firewood or charcoal aroma. It's true and believe me when she cooks, the food really taste different and it was tasty too.

Practically speaking, using a firewoods or charcoal would really save you a lot of money. As what you have mentioned, firewoods are free if you have the available resources and/or much cheaper with regards to the charcoal. At home, we used gas stoves and charcoal as well. :-)

It's a good thing that there had been some rollback recently. It's really easier to use LPG and so far cheaper than using Electricity. Of course using firewoods or charcoal is cheaper but very inconvient and takes lot of time. For a working wife like me I cannot afford go through the difficult process of using firewood or charcoal. But in my Mother's house, I saw them cooking in a charcoal stove which my brother improvised. Certainly it gave them a lot of savings.

I am very familiar with charcoal. We have both a gas stove and charcoal stoves here at home. I only use LPG for instant cooking, or when pre- heating a dish and when i am in a hurry. But, normally i use charcoal, which i have been using since my early teens. We used to operate the canteen of my elementary school when i was in my primary and intermidiate years, until my college days. So, my mom has been using charcoal because she used to cook so many dishes for lunch and "merienda" for the kids and teachers as well. It is not, that hard to use charcoal once you are used to it. It is just iike using LPG,, specially, when you are using it to boil meat or beef until it is tender. It is more conveniet than firewood. Until now, i am using charcoal though, i am also a working mom. Only i normally start my day at 4:00 a.m. to go to the market and prepare breakfast and luch for my family. The price of charcoal has gone up too, in the old days it cost only about 50.00php or less now it is at 120.00php per sack. I have gotten used to using charcoal because i usually cooked more than 1 dish a day, and we have a fmily business which is "lechon". We do not sell it by the kilo but by order as in one whole lechon. I am the one cooking the "liver sauce" and the "dinuguan" which goes with it. So, for me using charcoal is the most practical way.

Here in Canada we use neither on a regular basis. Occasionally some people use charcoal in a barbeque or hibachi but that is for cooking outside. Barbeques are almost all used with propane now. The odd one will use natural gas. Firewood is used occasionally to heat some homes in a wood stove. The old cook woodstove used for cooking is a relic of the past I doubt anyone has one anymore. When I was young I lived in an old farmhouse and we used a cook woodstove to cook and heat the house. Heating is now mostly done with natural gas which is piped into the houses, or with fuel oil which is delivered by truck and stored in a tank. A small percentage of houses use propane which is also delivered by truck and stored in a tank. Most houses have central heating using a large furnace, which we need because the winters get very cold. Cooking is mostly done in electric ranges which have an oven and also have top cooking elements. A smaller number of people cook with natural gas. A few even use propane, although this is not popular.

I came from the Philippines and grew up using firewoods, though we have shellane but we save it since we can get a lot of free firewoods in our place! But, here everyone is busy working and they all want to be quick in almost everything they are doing, so firewoods is not very common!

I already mastered cooking using charcoal and firewood. we usually use them at home specially when there is enough woods or when my father buy some charcoal. It is a cheaper way to cook anything. Though we use them quite often, we also have our LPG and electric stove in case when it rains.

Growing up we used to use the charcoal and firewood. The thing with the firewood if you don't know what you are doing the whole food taste of the wood. The charcoal to me is the best thing because the food is better taste. Even when baking you have to use the charcoal because the pudding has a nice and better moisture.

Hello, don. I remember when i was young we had this dirty kitchen or "dapog" as what my grandma called it. It's where they use firewood or charcoal to cook food that takes quite a while. Like boiling (is that the right word?) meat. And when we cook bbq, so the house wont smell like bbq and be filled with smoke. Hehehehe. I think it really is cheaper using wood and charcoal for cooking. But it takes quite a while to get the fire started.

Cooked food in charcoal and firewoods are much better taste, that's my grandmother said. But you know is true, every time I came in our house in province, the food is much better even a simple rice. But the problem for firewood is you use a woods a lot everyday, so its not good for environment. The charcoal from shell of coconut are much better, but even now is getting expensive too but not to much like LPG. LPG is better for city because in city has a busy day not like in province.
