The Dollar is getting stronger! Are you happy about this?

Personnally, I am happier when the Dollar is stronger against our local currency. At least moderately stronger I should say. Imagine how my $1000 is converted to P48,780 in todays's exchange rate as against the weaker rates in the past months. I don't know if I am being selfish here but I did not see any positive effect on my personal life during the time our Peso currency was at it's strongest. Maybe it is only the government people who were gaining and rejoicing but it did not really had positive effect on the buying power of my Peso. Am I right here or not? How about you fellow lotters do you prefer stronger dollar against your local currency? How does it affect your personal circumstances?

I use paypal to buy things over the internet especially ebay. Since it is only a small sum that I have in it I don't take notice whether the dollar is strong or weak and how it affects my currency.

Oh I see. Actually those who are earning a lot in dollars are the ones who are really affected. It so happens that I have investments in and handicraft export business so I really am so happy.

I can't say if I'm happy or sad because I haven't received any of my earnings from my online programs yet. . This is not good for the Philippines though because it means that the Philippine Peso is "devaluating ", which also means that the economy is going down. Which might also mean a higher inflation rate.

Yes you maybe right but we used to have a strong peso but how come we can't even feel the benefits? With stronger dollar, look how the OFW's and exporters are rejoicing. I am one of them!

Sorry to say this, that I personally not that happy with the exchange rate. Maybe I am not used to track the rates because I have nothing to do with what will happen to our peso. Sorry that I cannot feel how our peso fights back lately with the dollar. And sorry again to hear that only those with lots of money, maybe, are happy with the situation. I don't know really what to say about the peso-dollar exchange rate. But that was before. Before I am not with mylot, earning dollars. And now, I guess, frankly, with our dollar earnings here, I feel a bit sad when peso gets stronger. I know you know what I mean. Do I sound selfish too?

Yes, it may sound selfish but just being practical because we are actually directly benefited when the dollar we earn here are converted to more peso. It's understandable my friend!

The dollar getting stronger may be good for mylot users becase their earning will be converted more into their own currency. Take for instance india, the dollar was worth 40 odd indian rupees. But, now it is around Rs. 50. Thus, their same earning in dollar will be worth more in rupees. But, have you ever wondered about the serious repucuttions this will have on the global economy. The US econnomy is declinig and the price of dollar is increasing. It will have an impact on the global economy as the imports and exports will become costlier than before. I think we must not be too selfish to think only about us. In my opinion this is not good and will definitely affect all in the long run. We are now neglecting it's aftereffects such as inflation. Just think over this!!!!

But I am an exporter so I have a lot to rejoice about. That would sound selfish indeed but can't help it!

For those that have the dollar then it is good news for them, but for those that doesn't have that then they are not affected at all. For the Government side of things I guess its bad news since the loans they are going to pay is much higher in value in terms of peso equivalent. So are those big businesses that have a dollar denominated loans it just means that they have to exert more effort to be able to cope up with the hike $ value. But on my own I guess I also am happy when dollar rates is higher than lower since I do have a few dollars that I have been keeping for the past few weeks and is just waiting for it to go up a little bit.

Yes for those who are earning and keeping dollars this is really a happy development.I hope the dollars goes back to 50 again and that's it. I hope it will only be moderately stronger but not so strong. You are right the loan of the goverment will be negatively affected. Well, they should rather pay the debt instead of stealing the money.

The peso got strong at certain times, but life was still the same. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. Prices of commodities are still getting higher. I think stronger dollar is only good for OFWs and their families, and to dollar earners in our country and online. But to a lot of Filipinos, I guess, nothing changes. Still need to strive harder for a good life.

Oh yes my dear you are very right! Life remains the same. There is unequal distribution of health. Too bad really! We really have to strive harder if we want better life.

I am very much glad to hear that my friend. At least my $100 dollar to be sent to the Philippines would be P 4,800? wow!! they can have a little feast on Christmas with that small amount ha? I would be more happy if dollar will climb up to P50 or more. I remember one time when dollar reaches to P52 pesos? that was great!!!

Yes my friend! Happy are those who receive dollar remittances. It was during the time of Erap when the dollar reached as high as P52 and the OFW's were rejoicing. Even if the Peso gets stronger we could hardly feel the benefit so better have a stronger dollar to see the direct benefit to a lot of families here who have loved ones working abroad.

for me its ok because we can earn a lot of money, and its ok if php is going stronger as long as the prices of our needs for our daily living is going cheaper and cheaper. ang mahal ng bilihin ngayon. hehe. who shall we blame on it?

The problem is despite the peso's strength the last few months...the commodities remain high. So we find no direct benefit at all. Better have a stronger dollar at least the OFW workers and the Exporters are getting direct benefit.

Wow thats a very large amount of savings.good for you.me i havent save anything at all which is really sad.I guess im in favor with you.the economy is still not doing good eventhough the peso againts dollar rate went to our advantage. Our economy still sucks so i guess its better to sustain the present peso dollar rate today.it will also be of big help to the families of the OFW's here in our country.

You are right Joemarvic. Many families in our country are dependent on dollar remittances from loved ones working abroad. It's better to sustain the present rate. Many people here are directly benefited and for sure they are happier now just like me.

For those who have relatives on abroad and gaining dollars I'm sure they are rejoicing. The same with us, we are dependent on dollar remittance so we are happy that it was going up. I don't see the difference between the up and down of currency exchange here because, it doesn't have effect to a small consumer. We don't feel if the dollar are low or high in terms of spending money in small groceries. The price has nothing change. The same as when the dollar is high and when it's low. Hoping that all goods has the price control from the level up to down. When dollar is up the more expensive are the commodities and when it's down the with the commodities are still high. Where is the difference, nothing I see. That is our economy goes..

Yes, we don't feel the effect even if the Peso gets stronger. It's the same! So better have a stronger dollar and let the OFW's rejoice and the exporters as well.

My purchasing power on Ebay has been reduced since the medium of exchange is in US dollar. The increase in US dollar might have a slight effect on the US exports but will encourage foreign imports with a stronger dollar. From a economist perspective,, many exporting countries will indirectly benefit the appreciation.
@salonga (27775)

Yes that will really reduce your purchasing power! However exporters are happy. They are slowly picking up from the tremendous loss they have had over the last few months when the dollare was so weak. The importers on the other hand are crying! I'm glad I am smiling!

The time that the Philippine Peso is so strong many OFW's families are suffering. I think it is so much better that the dollar is stronger!

Yes, Kristine that is a good observation. Imagine the loss of many OFW's when the dollar was so weak. There is direct benefit to many of our countrymen.

I'm happy that dollar is inflating again because I have a relative working abroad and earning in dollars. When he sends dollars to me, I immediately go to the money exchange and change dollar to peso. The exchange is higher in value.

It's really a happy development for those with relatives working abroad. I also have a sister whose husband works abroad and I'm glad this is a big help in her finances. We also do earn here in dollars and I also have export investments so I am really so glad.

I am the opposite, I work in Taiwan and have to send my money home to America, so my income(relative to the dollar) gets worse as the dollar gets better.

No, not in my paypal account. It's in my local savings account. I'm receiving dollar remittances from abroad so it really affects me a lot when the Dollar is weakening. I'm losing money when that is the trend! Thanks for dropping by! Have a nice day!
