lately everything i have bought electronic wise i swear has like a self destruct timer on it or something.. i never get the extended warranty because i have never really had problems with electronics breaking and im used to having products for YEARS before them even giving me a little simple problem..
well i have had a vcr, mp3 and a laptop that i bought in the past 2-3 years and the dell (big surprise.. dells always break but it was all i could afford) and i had to have it worked on 3 times during the year warranty and when i thought there was nothing left to mess up or break shortly after a year and the warranty is up it completely goes crazy!!
mp3 player breaks within 1 month.. thank god for a 90 day one and i was able to get it replaced and even upgraded..
my vcr (in another discussion) is a tv/dvd/vcr that worked great till the year was over and we are talking the month after the year was over its now screwed up and wont play videos..
every one always kids about how things are made cheaper and cheaper and they arent kidding!! i remember i have had tvs that have been 10 years old and video game systems for like 5 etc.. now i cant keep anything working!! and jeeze i sound like some one older than 27 to be complaining about how things have gone down hill so fast!!

ha ha ha ha ha... it is one of those days eh? Where everything you love to use starts to fall apart?
I know what you mean!
Things are not built to be as sturdy as they used to be.
In the past, when I buy something, I can use them for many years.
Now, they hardly make it past the 5 year mark.
Rarely can we get something to work for a long time even with proper maintenance.
That is why now, when I buy something, I am mentally prepared to get it replaced in about 5 years or so. And if the extended warranty is not too expensive, I would get them. Especially for items that are big ticket like TVs, cameras, fridges... etc.
Cos if you calculate the cost of getting them replaced, it is cheaper to get the extended warranty sometimes.
I hope you can resolve the electronic problems you are facing soon. Call up the companies for those whose warranty expired really recent. Try to negotiate for them to help you service your gadget as if it was under warranty. I am sure there is room for negotiation.

That is why it pays to have backups. Lots of it!
I learnt my lesson the hard way.
Sigh... I still keep my old harddisks that gave up on me in the hope that one day, the cost of recovery is cheaper, then I would go and retrieve back my data.
It is so sad to lost so much pictorial memories.

lol...
It seems everything brakes on me right after the warranty is up too. Just this year my husband's x-box two months after warrenty was up. My Gateway one month after warranty. We have a new car that is almost to the mileage when the warranty will expire...and I'm SCARED! lol
I like my old Nintendo System. It's like 25 years old and it works great and all the games got kicked around and they still work. They don't make things like they use to! I have a tv that is over 12 years old and it still works. Weights and ton and doesn't have the picture my flat screen does but it still works. I'm just waiting for this expensive tv my husband had to have to die, I hear they don't last long. So far so good, but now that I said this I'm sure it will happen. It seems to always happen that way.

Wow sounds like you're having a run of bad luck electronics wise.
I noticed too that things just dont last as long as they used to. I have a tv thats 10years old and another thats a year old and the 10 year old one works way better than the one thats newer. I think its a thing where they want to sell more more more so its a quantity over quality. Things arent made as well so they can put out more things to sell...and people have to buy more because things fail before they would have years ago.

Well most of these items of ours are being made/ assembled by the poor in china. I doubt they care if it last. The owners of the company don't want it to last because in our world the electronics of today are obsolete to the ones of tomorrow and need you to upgrade sooner then later or their company will perish. On top of all that these products are being made smaller thinner lighter and just cant survive the stress of the fast pace world.
conspiracy ... yes. did you know that they had a light bulb that could last for years but conspired to make sure that the bulbs had a much shorter life span in order to maintain the profits off the producers. it happens allot in the auto industry too.

I totally agree with you on the idea that things are made cheaper now. I know this to be fact. We have a 25 year old tv in our living room,(lucky we have cable because the digital in 2009 would screw us) but anyway in the last few years we have had to buy a couple of new tvs for our son because they keep going out. How can a new tv only last a few months!!?? That is just weird. My new washer and dryer are only a few months old and I am already having problems with them. Stuff is made so cheap.

i always heard my parents complaining while growing up but just dismissed it until the last couple of years and im like WTF?!?!?! i always saw getting the extended warranty being a rip off because i never had anything break without it being old enough that i didnt care or wanted to replace it anyways but now im like hmm maybe not!!

Uuuuuugggghh! How frustrating.
Maybe you should check the items a little closer and buy the ones WITHOUT the self distruct feature.

Dose it say made in china, if so then i'm not surprised. I have had several things are made from there that have broken or fallen apart electronic or otherwise. They are becoming well know for there cheap production these days cutting corners and so on. I always go for some king of warrenty when one if offered, simply because I can never be 100% sure that something is not going to happen to it.

you have to understand one thing that these days technology changes by months, so buying anythign for a longer period lets say 2-3 years is not suggestible, so its better to look at a shroter life span for electronic gadgets and feel happy if it works properly for one year, if more feel its a lottery

just because technology changes doesnt give them the right to do crappy work

What can I say to that! Crappy electronics... maybe you get what you pay for? or a streak of bad luck? Bad electrical wiring causing surges that are weakening everything? Welcome to the "when it rains, it pours" syndrome? WHAT???
Hey that 1 month over warranty tv/dvd/vcr combo... I would be on the phone with that company. Same thing happened to me and I got them to honor it.
I hope things improve for you friend!

Hello,
as a friend of mine is usual to say, we are too much poor to can buy cheap things. And i should admit he's right.
Cheap goodies are nice coz they cost few, and looks really affordable. The sad is usually you buy what you pay, and if something is cheap, probably is not the best quality you can find ;)
happy myLotting
