Is Phelps The Best ?

Do you think Micheal Phelps is the best in the history of swimming.

He has broken all the records in his swim styles, has gotten more Olympic medals than anybody else in one Olympics. I think that qualifies to nominate him for the best ever in the history of swimming. He deserves it, has worked hard for it, yet he still is a nice and humble guy.
Maybe he should run for president next;)

Yes, Mark Spitz used to be in that position, but he has been out-swum by Phelps, who ultimately broke more records, got more medals, and is faster than Spitz was. Spitz was happy to hand over the reign to Phelps. He said he had lived with it for so many years, it is a pressure, people are constantly watching whether your record will be broken, he is glad it will be more peaceful now, lol;)

While I agree with you some of the things that you have said, I believe that Mark Spitz could still be in the same position as Phelps because when Marks Spitz won the seven gold medals in the Olympics, the 50 meter freestyle was not an event. Spitz himself said that if there was the 50 free he is confident that he could have won that event as well as his seven other events. Therefore, he would have won 8 gold medals just like Phelps did.
