Sometimes when I order food at restaurant it comes out and doesn't always look so great but as long as it smells good and taste good then I don't really care that much! How important is it how the food you order out looks on your plate? Do you care about things like that or are you like me and just care about it tasting and smelling good!

I think I am like you Cjay. Food which looks good, definitely adds to the buffet and the party and its a part of the show but what good f it doesn't taste good! I am the kind of girl who would love home made food and as you know they on most occasions are not showy. When in a restaurant presentation doesn't really matter to me.
How are you today dear?

I've lost my appetite a few times on seeing some exotic foods and those which have not been garnished well Cjay. This moreso in restaurants because we would not normally eat these foods at home. With normal other kinds of dishes i suppose the taste finally matters.

I would look at the food just to make sure that there is nothing that is not supposed to be on the food there. Then I would check for oil level as I would not really like to eat food that is too oily. Once I have passed that stage, I would then go for the smell...
The food must smell and should not have any smelly smell or any smell that should not be smelled on a food.
Then the last thing I would check before tasting it would be the temperature of the food itself. I have burnt my tongue so many times before just because I forgot to check the temperature.
Once all that have been done, then I would give the food a first taste to ensure that it is really edible.
So, it looks like I have lots of steps to do but believe me, all those steps can be completed by me in less than 10 seconds. So, it is really not a big deal and 95% of the time, I would be able to eat any food that came my way.
Cheers!

smeel and looks comes first before i try on a food i am not familiar with.Let's admit it, the more presentable a food looks like and the more aromatic its smell is, the more it is most likely to be judged as something delicious. That basically explains why chefs and cooking masters present their food dramatically and artistically. People do often judge things by how they look, in this case, foods taste is judged by its look. Some adventurous people do somatimes enjoy eating weird looking foods that sometimes proves to be very delicious too.

I agree that smells and looks of the food come first, but there are some that done a great presentation, but it doesn't really taste good. To be honest sometimes I look in the menu and if the picture of the food looks good I'll go for it, lol. Thanks, Joie.

Hi, there. I usually do not care if the food looks great. Food on the plate is to be eaten, so tastes good is the most important thing, and of course if it looks great and smells good, that is better.

Many years ago I was told by my Dad that people do not eat only with their mouth. They eat with their eyes and nose, too. What he was getting at was this: People eat first with their nose, because they usually cannot see what is being cooked. They eat second with their eyes, because when it gets to them they can see what is placed before them. They eat third with their mouth, because that is what is left after their nose and eyes have already passed comment on their food. He also taught me that if you can convince the nose and eyes on the quality of what is being served, the mouth will kind of go along with the others. Comments, anyone?

hmm it depends. Well it cannot hurt if the dish tastes good and looks beautiful. :) It also depends on the price I am paying. If I am going in a fancy restaurant, I hope the food will look good. As for fast food palce, it does not really matter to me. However when we get people who come over like visitors and such, it is important for us to provide them a good looking food. A dish not looking good for the visitors is an insult for them in my culture. I remember once I did my first dish. It did taste good but did not look great so my mom yelled at me and said that she does not want to eat dog food.

Hi ladysakurax! Well I think, its wonderful to have a food that taste good and looks good. Yes sometimes it depends in the place that your going to and most of the fancy restaurant actually serve nice foods. I agree that if we have visitors we should at least make the effort for the foods to look good. Thanks for the response.

I don't know why but I prefer my food to look more or less good. There is a little line between good and bad looking food and for some odd reason I am afraid of eating the not so great looking food as good as it might smell.
I don't know why it is the way it is, it simply always has been like that since I was a kid.
