What is the meaning of an extinct volcano?

Extinct volcanoes are those which have ceased to emit lava. The volcanic shafts are blocked up and the land around it is inhabited. Examples of exctinct volcanoes are Fujiyama in Japan, and Kilimanjaro in Kenya.
