With the large wide screen TVs being expensive, is it feasible to get a 2nd set

Years ago before the HD TVs came into play, families would have a large TV set in the living room, and one or more in the bedroom, usually a smaller portable one. Now I am omitting that some families could only afford one set, and that was probably a second hand set. But now with the new HD tVS with the wide screens being so expensive, is the custom of having a second smaller HD wide screen Tv still apply or are families going back to the old custom when there was only one set in the house?
We have a large one in the living room, and our second set is one of the old portable Tvs. We do have an old large screen Tv monitor down in our basement, but that is for one of our sons when they want that.
So how many Tvs do you have in your house and are they the old kinds, the new kind, or a combination?

When our sons were with us, they had their separate Tv sets, so what happened was that if I did not like what was on the living room Tv, I could watch one of theirs while they were at work, but that was before we bought the HD tV and by that time they had moved out. And we went through the whole bit of the Tv burning green and then buying another. I do not know how many we went through since we were first married in the 1970s.

FIVE?! Yowza! I remember when you started collecting CATS...can I expect someday to hear you have 30 or so TVs TOO? ROTFLOL!
Reminds me of that old song, "57 Channels & Nothing's On!"

We now just have three, and only two are working and we just watch the big Tv in the living room. But my husband bought our sons, Tv sets for themselves, and we gave our old DVd to our younger son. Now all we have to do is get rid of that smaller Tv set and get a small LCD HD tV for the guest room, but that entails changing the big dish out in our backyard so it only gets digital Canadian Tv. And I do want to get the USA channel and the Science Fiction channel, but we cannot because the evil CRTC here in Canada will not let us order it.

We got a projection tv down in the basement, the large screen Tv that is unplugged and all the stuff to work it is in the spare bedroom. Yes we got it before the wide screen tvs came out, yes that is us, we got beta and then the vhs came out and we got the hd dvd player and then blue ray came out. It does not matter when, soon after we get a new format it goes kerplunk!

We only use our large screen Tv. Sometimes I think about getting a smaller LCD for the bedroom or the guestroom when my husband wants to watch some sport program and I want to watch a science fiction.

Personally I think people tend to have more than one tv set if they like to watch tv, sports or dvd's.
Right now I think it's more of a combination of the old and the new, a lot of people will be upgrading to HD in the next few months (think christmas and super bowl time) before the analog signals die.
The cost of HD tv's are going way down, and 25-32 inch HD widescreen LCD are in the $200-300 range. Prices continue to fall fast.
Personally, I have 2 televisions, and I live alone. One HD bigscreen in my living room, and 32" tube in my bedroom. When that one fails or the prices get low enough I'll probably replace it with a smaller LCD, but really since I have cable it's a non-issue for me.

With us, it is "I hate sports and I hate certain shows, so I would rather watch a show that I like" but right now, we are looking into getting a blue ray player, but we usually buy high end in dvd players and they are either too expensive or they have not been made available. We did not buy our high def tv until it came down in price, so that is what we will do. And since the smaller hd lcds are around $300, I might look into one for the guest room.

Only one old one--not the modern kind at ALL, but hey, I ain't complainin;' the "price" was right (Free, from a local organization called "Freecycle," which people go to online to swap items).
As my cable company guarantees they have the new method of accepting broadcasting when it changes, I'm not even sweating that.
I know some folks who have a giant TV, & Blue-Ray (whatever that really MEANS), & "Hi-Def," etc., but even if I could afford it I don't think I'd plug so much money into such a fancy system. TV's just not THAT important to me, y'know?
Not that I don't have my favorite shows! LOL!

We went through the old Tv route and when the hi def came in, we waited until the prices went down. We are very choosy as to what we watch but it seems if you just watch the locals, you do not get that good a selection, like Christian Tv, discovery, information. It depends on what you like. Like I love cooking shows and the old classics, but there are some that are quite good.

I think the biggest of the old style tvs I have owned is twenty inches which I find quite adequate. I would probably not go bigger than thirty two inches on a new flat screen when the price comes down a bit more and I can afford it as my living room is now fairly small. I just have the one in the living room, I have the wiring in the bedroom and small extra tvs but do not have them hooked up for some reason. I find little of interest other than news on the television and the schedule for programs I watch are always changing and so many are reruns I lose interest. I think they make about 12 episodes a year, ok maybe more, but it seems like 12 and they rerun them over and over and over again. I have a forty inch rear projection tv that I won in a contest but I have hardly ever used it. I guess I am not much of a tv person.

I was looking into the smaller sized lcds and find they are too high priced now. We do have a large one, and we waited until there were enough hd programs on Tv to justify that. If there was just one or two, that would be a waste of time. They are now getting the older movies in the high def format and that is a lot better then the small screen. But if you want to get good tv programs you have to pay for it. You just get the most popular shows on local and what the media wants you to like. If you want scientific shows, nature shows, home improvement, discussion, etc. you have to pay for them.

We have only one TV, and I think thats enough. For one, I cannot afford another. And for a second reason, I'd like our family to spend time together. This way we can watch some comedies on TV and laugh together. I don't know, may be if could afford it, I might have gone for another one. My second son loves football, and all of us are forced to watch it on weekends. The rest of us just watch a little football, but he's crazy for this. He does not force us during the rest of the week. So its fair enough to let him have his way during weekends.

Now we only have one large t.v. set in the living room. Actually I am planning to buy a smaller set for the bedroom, but now we are still renting and I don't want to buy a lot of things. It would be difficult to carry many huge and heavy things when we move into our new home soon.
Before I bought the large t.v. set, we only had one small t.v. which is the old version. The t.v. itself is black in color, and it is 14" which is the smallest size. After that our t.v. damaged and I decided it was time for us to purchase a new one. So we bought this one which is gray in color, it is no the LCD but I think it is one of the newest versions. It is 29".
If I have enough money I will certainly buy the LCD t.v. which I can hang on the wall.

We do not have the LCD one we can hang on the wall, but if we could afford a smaller one for the guest room, it would be nice. We just got a regular lcd hd tv in the living room and we just got the lamp inside replace (it was a rear projection one) and boy I hated changing it. But with Christmas coming up, it is going to be a bit expensive so we might not get it and we were debating about getting a blue ray player.

My husband and I have a HDTV. I love it and would miss it if we suddenly had a different kind. My mother has the old kind, and she likes that. My husband and I have one TV as does my mother.

That is the same with us. When our lamp in the Tv in ours went off, we were frantically looking for the manual and then the phonebook to find the nearest distributor who was in Outer Mongolia, translation, half way across the city. Luckily we found one, and then we had to unscrew the old lamp box and put the new one in, and then return the old lamp to the distributor because there is no place to recycle it here in the city.

Hello dear friend. We don't have two TV sets in the house at the same time. Our first old TV set was used for more than a decade before it was finally out of order. Then we bought a new one, also the second one that we are using now, which is placed in the living room. We are planning to get a smaller one for the bedroom. It is convenient to watch TV when it is cold in winter. Take care, friend.

The big screen is in the living room and in each room hd but not the flat screen ones. Just the regular sets, the converter box on two of the four tvs in the house. But that is right I didn't think about that till reading this discussion. The other rooms have regular sets and the large screen is in the living room. Now if you don't have a HD tv or the converter box. Your tv is not going to work if you don't have cable or satellite.

I think that the prices of TV's are pretty low these days, unless you buy those really
big ones. I have a 27" TV in my livingroom and that is good enough for me, I don't need
one of those really big ones.
I also have a small TV with a built in VCR in my bedroom. It is only a 19" TV but it
is good enough for my bedroom. It is also really old, obviously since it has a built
in VCRm and it still works really good so I won't be replacing it.
My daughter has a 19" TV in her room also. We love having our own TV's besides the big
one in the livingroom so that when we want some alone time we can just go to our
bedrooms.
I think that people will always have more than one TV. They are cheap enough now, to
buy more than one.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend.
Your friend, Chris

We have a combination of TVs. We have a wide screen LCD in my parents' room. Then a 40+ inch but analog model in the living room, and another really small one in the kitchen which doesn't even have cable haha. We don't watch sports game together here as a family so the best TV we keep in the privacy of the bedroom. We only got our Samsung flat screen recently and it was very affordable at around $650 only!

We have two older tv sets, but it is my understanding this this Christmas season some of the new big tvs will be greatly on sale because of the bad economy. If you are looking for a new tv you might consider looking for one before the end of the year. Sellers have a lot of them and they need to reduce their inventory.

we have two Sony flatscreen tvs at home but dad has plans of buying two Plasma TVs to replace the old ones.. the old ones would be given away to our closest neighbor.. watching my favorite shows would be more fun and exciting as plasma tv has bigger screen and clearer sound quality..
