I See Black Fog Everywhere

I work in very tall building and the windows are widely open here. I'm actually at the 27th floor and from where I am I can see a good bird's eye view of Manila and Quezon City and also a very clear view of the black fog surrounding the city. Goodness traffic is causing way too much pollution. This is what I see everyday every time I peak from the window. Good thing that there is a golf course near this building. There are lots of trees in it so it's not too polluted. What do you guys think can be solution to our air pollution problem? Any insights?

plant plenty of trees! i think another solution to that is the government should be strict in implementing its anti smoke belching policy. capture drivers and vehicles emitting pollutants from their vehicles. if the government will do this seriously i think we can still save our lives.

Actually I see lots of trees from where I am. All roads has trees in the middle or on the site. But I don't think it's enough for to us have trees. Minimizing smoke belchers should help or shifting to another energy source.

Pollution can be caused by alot of things, but i believe cars are the main culprit among all ^_^ The amount of soot and carbon being released from cars, is actually more than enuough to pollute the whole world.. BUt too bad, for ple whom owns car, they dun think it that way.. TO them, they are not the only ones causing pollution and why should they give up their own comfort when everybody is doing the same.. That's a sign of selfishness from them, enjoying their own comfort at the expense of the world.. The only way is to make the prices of cars sky high, till it's higher than that of a flat.. So that ple will really consider b4 buying.. lol

Good public transportation and a publicity campaign to make it acceptable and "cool" would be a good solution. Here in the U.S., people think only "losers" ride the bus. You see many people going the same direction, even to the same place, and only one person per car!

There is a large segment of the population that thinks riding the bus is just for old folks and those who can't afford a car. Although this has changed somewhat when people couldn't afford $4 gasoline, now that the gas prices have gone down people are driving their cars more again. Public transportation isn't their first choice. If you have a good system that gets people where they want to go quickly and comfortably I think they would choose it over the expense and stress of driving a car. I would, if it were available!

I'm not to sure what you mean by "cool." Do you mean that literally? If you do it sounds expensive to me. If you mean being "cool" in the sense that you are cool if you ride a limo or something then, what do you think is the "cool" way of having good public transportation. Riding a bus is inexpensive and conserves energy since it can carry a lot of people. So why would be people losers if they ride the bus?

implementation of high breed cars. what im talking about it the new generation fuel cell powered car. it is the most safest and environmental friendly car that dont used gas only hydrogen but i know our country will be outdated with that kind of cars in japan they begin to used it on the streets and us are also next one to implement it at year 2010.

Do you that a Filipino sold that technology to Japan? The water that starts an engine or a vehicle was also invented by a Filipino but then the intellectual property was sold as well because the government is not willing to fund unfortunately. Why? Because the gas stations are one of the biggest tax payers in the Philippines.

i heard the humor that one filipino sold the blue print to japan and its been created in early 90's. but i didnt know that it will end up to be a hydrogen technoligy and became fuel cell but i only know that it is a water powered vehicle when its became created by pinoy. but there was a invention by australian scientist that theres no need for everything it is the magnetic generator it generate power endlessly. but most government do... they dont fund that technology coz it doesnt pay much taxes if its been distribute to the market. like what you said here at our country if its been approve the government will lose much tax in oil company.

and yeah by the way did you know that i like the NUCLEAR TECHNOLIGY? i like it coz it is the most powerful thing that can light up a hole nation i just one tiny atom particle. but it is not been implemented in the early 50's or 60's when the television is been created the inventor got an idea of making a new breed of energy resources and fuse it in electronic devices and its called nucleotronic technoligy. hehehehe i like that.

well, to start to talk hehehe, to start to talk i will say: " its the biggest global problem cause its make 80% of the global warming and greenhouse efect ^^ AND at this moment have a LOT of harvard professors working 4 this solution hehehehe and yes, evebodys know dont use CARS will less the problem, but less 1 or 2% and nothing more ^^... clear the water ? yess, sure, but no more than 4 or 5% of the problem will be resolved, because THIS we dont have severe LAWS yet about this... the govern dont want explain this notice but the true is... JUST CONSERVING WE DONT HAVE SALVATION, this are the problem... the cientists are working hard to make machines to clean the air copyng the trees system and working too at one system to recover something of us ozoni camade... well, lets w8 and wish good luck 4 US ! Be Happy !

Well good luck to the scientists then we can only hope for them to come up something that will help mankind. If conserving is not the only salvation then we are in really bad shape because apparently most people are not even conserving at all. Even if it's not our salvation, doing our part won't definitely help lessen it right?

First off, people have to believe it is a problem. Then they have to be willing to be inconvenienced by solving the problem. Like maybe car pooling, mass transit or bicycling. They have to demand cleaner fuels, even if it costs more. I am sorry that your city is surrounded by black fog. I am glad for the golf course and any other green belt that is around to help remove the pollution from the air.

There are a lot of trees from as far as I can see believe me but it's really not enough. Well of course, cleaning the air should start with the people there are actually a lot of "jeepneys" and other vehicles that emit a lot of smoke I really hate it! Thanks for the response GardenGerty!

Stopping the use of cars makes excellent sense. They even produced a technology wherein they can use water to run engines. Problem is the government is unable to fund it for some reason. tsk tsk.

When you are in a high rise building anywhere in the metropolis you'll notice it the most during early morning and late afternoon when the temperature will have a big transition. Usually, what you see are no "FOGS", it's a "SMOG" or Fog that has become mixed and polluted with smoke. (smoggy atmosphere) These are air pollution caught in our atmosphere. We can still do a lot of things to save our planet. Actually, this is totally alarming.

It is. I never really realized how polluted our airways our when I saw it myself! Even the trees planted cannot handle it. It's too much!

That was one of our major problems we have here in the Philippines. That air pollutions. Wish our leaders will do something to at least minimize if not solve that pollutions problem.

You see I could say a lot of bad things about our country and I wouldn't like that of course. It's easy to say things. I could say we should eliminate all those old vehicles since most of them really are the ones causing air pollution from smoke belching. But I know that it's not that easy to just throw a vehicle especially if it's their way of earning money. There's not much trees in Manila too. They better start planting trees before it's too late.

Planting trees may not be enough though. There are thousands and thousands of vehicles everyday and if not for those trees that I see then the people in manila would have suffocated already. Maybe switching to a different source of energy. Too bad our government is not willing to fund energy projects

everyone must take action to preserve our community. if everyone will do its part everything can be in order. we must take action in cleaning first our surrounding and after it the rest of water ways drainage system that also prevent flooding if properly monitor. we then plant different kind of trees to help freshen up the air system and helps cool down the temperature and so if it rain we have not to worry about floods and it can also pushdown the smokes that pollute our community then flush away to the rivers and ocean for further cleaning process. if everything is in order we can expect in the coming years to come a cleaner greener surrounding.

Well, like what they said, it's SMOG. It's pollution. and there's no more way to make it better. First thing that needs to change is the government, they need to shape up, then work their way up. If things get better in the Philippine government, then that SMOG will slowly fade away. Now that's a good tip for you guys, as long as you see SMOG, thing might be getting worse so be ready for the most common thing in the Philippines, CRISIS. The locals say the word as if it's so normal, I wonder why? In other countries, when they're in crisis, they act on it. They get alarmed on something's going wrong in their country. I hope a lot of influence in this country would wake up and make Philippines a better country to live in... Well, that's just a dream for now.

I was trying to make it sound like a euphemism LOL. The Philippines is still a good place to live in there are a lot of nice provinces. The problem is mostly centralized in cities especially in Metro Manila. Where not only air pollution is the problem.

There are many solutions for air pollution. But some people choose to ignore it for money. But as individual we can do more. We can walk or ride bike more. Use vehicles that take cause that create air pollution less. We can plant more trees and plants. As they provide the oxygen we need to breathe and vice versa. Look up "Going green" and see how many tips you can find that way. The "greener" we do things. The less pollution we will be putting out.

Perhaps the LTO could impose on requirements that vehicles of tranport groups or companies should pass before being able to run through the metro.. I mean, gas emission test does sound favourable for the environment and if the vehicle can't pass on that, it maybe possible that the engine wouldn't last long enough on the road which may cause delay in traffic when it suddenly stops functioning properly, inadvertently clogging roads if it does break down. To pass requirements, operators should make that routine checkup on their vehicles and if found with even the slightest detail not meeting the requirement, they can't operate. That's why transport groups should also provide aid to their drivers and their vehicles. Of course, again, that's not as simple as just mentioning it. People have to work to earn something for a living and imposing requirements would make their already difficult situation more difficult. Perhaps LTO could impose a new order wherein new starting transport groups or companies shoud have all their vehicles converted to coco-oil..?

People are unmindful and uncaring of the mother nature. This is a very sad thing. They don't know that they are not just hurting the environment but their ownself and all the people around. Pollution is really at its worse, it's about time we do something about this. Planting more trees will help so I hope to see more trees planted around us.
