People mostly say, and i would recomend; slow, soft music with a quiet/relaxing melody...
But personally i just end up listening to I MIss you- Blink182 and Chasing Cars- snow patrol and such.. even linkin park songs o_O
I dont think those work for most people .

I think I have the same prombles as you. maybe the classical music could relax you and help you sleep well. The pop music will make you excited if you listen them before you go to sleep.

I fins chillout and classical music can help me to sleep I I'm having problems. Rather than naming particular songs I suggest that you search amazon for a classical chillout album or download one on iTunes. You would want something quiet and gentle to help you drift off rather than something powerful and loud.

It actually depends on how you react to the music. Sometimes people find it weird that I fall asleep listening to rock music when it's loud, fast and disturbing. I only fall asleep because I tire my brain too much analyzing the music and picking out the individual instruments' sounds within the whole piece. I just close my eyes and analyze and soon enough I'm snoring.
