Is depression a matter of focus?

I've experienced depression through my life. What has helped me is my focus. Being grateful for the little things in life. Trying to remember the last time I was happy and what my thoughts were during that time. It has helped me a lot focusing on happy thoughts and simply being grateful. So is it that depression comes whenever we allow ourselves to focus on what we don't have or the unpleasant memories?

Most time, its my work..with ontime deliveries and work loads. I try to divert mind on music and i feel better. We need to manage depression, as it is part of life in busy world.
But if we concentrate, we can manage it. I does it through my yoga, listening music and going out on vacation.

You probably haven't experienced true depression just the blues.Everyone has the blues from time to time but true depression is different. With depression you can't even think about happy times because you forget they existed. You can't even talk and it is a challenge to just pick your head up.Depression isn't something we can just change by our thoughts it just doesn't happen. It is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and can only be helped through medication, hopefully not a long term medication. Most people with depression have other factors involved with it like post traumatic stress that is a big one.I wish it were as simple as changing the focus of your mind, but it is not, that isn't to say positive thinking doesn't help. But when in the throws of a depressive episode one can't focus on happy times they just don't exist.

depends, a clinical depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain that needs to be treated with medication,
there are many forms of depression some of the milder ones just need refocusing as you say.

There's a lot of things that cause depression.
Environmental, dietary, psychological and personality.
The easiest one to fix is dietary. Go to www.naturalcures.com for lots of information on good dietary stuff.
As far as environmental goes, moving from a moderately large city (Los Angeles) to a very small one in the south (population less than 40,000) made a difference for me.
Outlook on life is very important too as well as the things we watch. I don't have cable or dish, instead I have more control over what is viewed in my home. I have a collection of comedy on DVD, including all 6 seasons of my personal favorite 3rd Rock From The Sun.
I also am sure to alwasy have a purpose. Volunteering helps out a lot and volunteer opportunities are easy to find at 1800volunteer.com
Stay happy! :-D
