Tell me if I'm handling "mylotting" all wrong

I've been reading lots of discussions lately, trying to learn about "mylotting" - Sometimes I get the impression that it's all about quantity - the more you post the better.
Then I get that it's actually the quality of the post, so I figure I should take my time and give a thoughtful, intelligent response.
But then I've been reading that whenever you start a discussion, you should be checking back on it in order to reply to responses - some folks seem to reply to only the people they know and others tend to just reply with "amens" or "I know what you means" - are these counted as individual posts? Is it offensive not to reply to respondents? (Does this have any bearing on the "star" system?)
Do you first look at the top discussions to see what everyone is talking about? (and then either respond or start similar discussions?)
Do you look up your friends' discussions so as to be loyal to them?
Do you look up discussions under "My interests" so as to make as many good posts as you can?
Do you just go to "New discussions" and start blabbing?
Do you go to the new discussions first to get the newer questions and/or those with no responses yet?
Is it important to go back and chose a "best" response?
Tell me what you do when you first get on Mylot and how you spend your time on the web site! I'm so confused!

Wow that's a lot of questions and I'll try to answer them the best way possible.
First of all, you are right on the fact that we do earn from quality of our post and not on its quantity. Some users has the wrong notion that we have to make lots of posts in order to earn. Yes it does help but you can make your work less tiring if you do it by the quality. It earns more actually.
Regarding on commenting back on responses we've received, we don't earn from it. Well it hasn't been really proven that we don't but in my opinion we also earn from it because mylot requires its users to participate here. And everything we do, is a way of participating. But it's your choice if you like to comment back on them or not. It's not offensive in general but other users feel it is. Your star rating is also not affected by it. Star rating only decreases if you get negative rate from your posts.
Every response you submit is counted as post. But for short responses we don't earn from it. Mylot requires us to create discussions and it would be good for a user if he/she can make several exchanges of views with another user. And remember even your response you have to make it a quality one.
Whenever I mylot I just have fun here. What I do after I log in is different everyday. Most of the time though I respond first to my friend's discussions. I suggest you just try to have fun here. You will learn the mylot ways as you go along mylotting. There are no exact rules on how you would like to mylot. How you would do it is your preference. The only rule you have to follow is the posting guidelines.
Hope that helps. Ciao!

Oh and one thing more, about the best response. Yes it is important to choose the best response. It is part of our participation here. We don't earn from that but it can improve the star rating if a user is chosen as best response. But then again, it is your choice if you like to do it or not. ![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

Thank you so much for a thorough explanation and a clearer view on my part! I try to look around for discussions that interest me and if I can't find any at the time, I try to start one about something on my mind! Nevertheless, I try not to waste my or anyone else's time with a lame response or question?
P.S. sorry about being such a question box! If I don't ask, though, how will I ever know!? :)

I have been here for over a year now and still dont have it all figured out,I just come here when I get the chance and have fun mylotting.I do things differnt each time but I look and see what the people on my friends list has done first and if something interests me I respond to them first, then I go see if anyone has responded to my discussions and respond back after that I go to the ones that I responded to to see if anyone responded back to me and respond back to them if they have and then I am pretty much done mylotting for the night.I see know difference in the way to make money here but when you start a discussion you earn more and I have noticed that if I respond to the news I make more for that, but I am just here for the fun of it so I really dont plan on making a lot of money. You have a great night.
