How do you do it?

Hallo all. I'm not really a artist but sometimes I get those great ideas for pictures. And thats where my problem starts. So I have this idea for a picture that I would love to draw so that other people can see it to. But the problem is that I can't draw the picture on paper. And whenever I try it ends up looking like nothing. It rarely looks at last similar to what I had in mind while drawing it. So I wanted to ask. How do you do it? How do you get the picture out of your head and on the paper? Could you give me some tips? Because I hate it when I get those nice ideas for pictures that I can't show to anyone else. :(

Have you tried to get your ideal down digitally? Like on a program like adobe photoshop, then once you have you're ideal down ( just the way you want it )in digital format you can then print it out and paint it on canvas and use your digital image as a map . A lot of great artist now day's seem to use a lot of mixed media art methods together to achieve there art vision, and programs like Adobe photoshop really does comes in handy with such projects. Sometimes I draw a picture then scan it then put it threw Photoshop to alter my picture the way I want. You might want to try that also. The sky is the limit with photoshop.Good luck and don't give up :)

Takashy, I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. It's just a more condensed verion of regular Photoshop and it lacks some of the features of regular Photoshop. It does just fine if you'll just be learning Photoshop. I got it for $80.

Ok, I might give that a try. But isn't Adobe Photoshop a expensive program?

Well, I am no artist myself but, I have also asked that similar question before to other dA members in the site which really do create those artworks that I get amazed of and they would often answer with similarity, 'just practice.' I know its easier said than done but, there's nothing we could do about it. Skills like that are often innate talents on some individuals while other have to work hard to learn them. I happen to fall under the latter. Even if I do get to think of something impressive, having them visually presented on paper is another hurdle that I have to tackle. Sometimes, I end something entirely different even if I had that great idea in mind the whole time while drawing. For one thing about drawing, we should not get frustrated and just enjoy what we are doing. One of the hindrances that aspiring artists experience would be being critical to their own work. We should just draw and let others critic the work we make if they want to. Being conscious about our own work during the actual drawing takes away the joy in it. The more we enjoy things that we do, the more it gets better. The more we become conscious, the slower the pace for anything to be accomplished. Enjoy while you practice and don't get disappointed when they don't come out right on your first couple of tries. That's part of self development and like other things, they wouldn't be there at where they are right now if they hadn't made errors along the way. (^_^ )

Hehe, ok, I will continue practicing but the sad thing is that I usually forget how those pictures looked so I might end up loosing a lot of great pictures while still practicing. But I can still hope that I will be able to draw those pictures someday in the future. :)

Hey, its better for you to forget about your own ideas than someone else getting them and taking credit about it. (^_^") Continued practice has already been proven by many, whatever their profession or interests might be so, that hope of yours together with your efforts wouldn't be distant on becoming a reality. (^_^ )

I post my photography on DA. Sometimes I'm totally inspired and I have awesome ideas, but they never seem to look right after the picture has been taken. Othe times they come out better than I expected. Just keep trying. Even if you don't think it will come out right, try it anyway. It's all trail and error. :) One day it will come out perfectly for you.

I have the same problem, lovely visions in my head but unable to transfer the image.I suspect that you go to quiet place and begin drawing what you envison and then see what happens.Next you can get help from online art schools and advisors .I see where many art schools are now offering programs on line who can help people like you
