Pet Food

Well, I have seen kids get into the dog food and had to remove it. Some feed their dogs in the kitchen and don't allow the children in the kitchen without adult supervision, but their are some who do and the dog food could pose as a choking hazard. We are only supposed to give our animals so much to eat as well and only what they can finish at any given time. If you teach your child though that it is yucky,nasty,ucky, the child might leave it alone. I know all I have to say to my sister that something was nasty and she wouldn't eat it..still doesn't. So if parents have a crawler in the house it is best to have gates up to prevent the child from getting close to the place the pets are fed or where there is dangerous stuff like stuff under the sink..

I live alone with my puppy,so I haven't such risk.But when I have got a baby,I think I will be careful in order to avoid any danger to baby.Now I just put the dog food in a location like you because I feel trouble to guard his eating.But in the book said that it's good for dog to finish their food in the limit time,for this,they will know if they couldn't eat their food out quickly,they will have nothing to eat at other time.My dog has become picky,I should blame for it.

Hmmmm. I think I would just make sure to keep a better eye on the baby. I would also do like you said and put the food where the baby cannot get to it.

I don't have kids, but I have had numerous nieces & nephews around- even some living here when very young. Dog food has never been a problem, but I never allowed any kids in the area where the dogs were eating in the first place. Kids being around while the dog is eating can be a hazard- not for the kid eating the food and choking, but for the kid to disturb the dog while he's eating and the dog may get defensive.

It seems silly to have to stand guard over your pets food so that your child does not choke on it. I agree with you. Just put the food where a child cannot get to it. If they do get to it I am sure the risk of choking on it is pretty low.

I think your plan is sensible.. don't put the food where the kids can get into it. As I recall, growing up, my youngest brother would eat the dog food. Yuk! Keep it out of the kid's reach. I think we really did call my youngest brother "Dogbreath."
