Which do I use most often (more like forced to use)? Windows Vista. Which do I prefer? Linux. Let me explain.
I like Windows because I'm a gamer. I hate to say it, but there aren't too many game developers who support Linux right now. This also applies to software in general. There is definitely more support for Windows than Linux right now, which is unfortunate.
I dislike Windows for a few reasons. First, it's expensive. Microsoft is without a doubt over-charging on their OS. I would have had to pay $300.00 for a retail version of Vista Ultimate (32 and 64-bit versions), but I lucked out and found a $150.00 OEM version with just the 32-bit version. Linux, on the other hand, is completely free. Second, I'm sick of blue screens. No, my computer is actually quite new; I just built it a few months ago. And I STILL BSoD. I'm also sick of the fact that Microsoft always blames the user. There's even a quote of some Microsoft employee saying that most of the time computer problems can be traced back to the user. Yes, it's MY fault I threw a fatal run-time error at a random memory location. Yeah, that was all me.
I like Linux for a few reasons. First, you don't have to restart as much as Windows. With Windows, it makes you install stupid updates all the time, and then asks you to restart. You can't even postpone it until you decide to restart, you have a maximum of a 4 hour window before it just does it anyway. And then, when you log back in, lo and behold, there are MORE updates to install. And restart. Rinse and repeat. You only have to restart Linux if core system components are changed, which happens less often than in Windows.
Another reason why I like Linux is because if there's some kind of bug or problem, there are thousands of people working to fix it. And before you know it, a few days or weeks later, a fix is released. People with Windows, however, have been waiting years for Microsoft to change something about Windows, regardless of whether it's a bug or just a feature. If it's a feature, chances are someone in the open-source community has probably already written one.
I'll admit, third party support for Linux right now is soft. It's getting better, but it's still hard, if not impossible, to play the most recent games or use the most recent Windows software under Linux. But that doesn't mean that Linux is a bad system, it just means that software developers think that no one uses it. That is, of course, not true. More and more people use Linux everyday, sometimes to revive systems that Windows would refuse to use.
So in a nutshell, I like Linux. Unfortunately, however, I am forced to use Windows to play all of my games.

I still prefer the OS from Microsoft compared to the free OS from Linux and the reason is simply due to the fact that Windows OS are more user friendly and they have less compatibility problems with third party softwares.
I have two computer and both of them are running on Microsoft OS. The main one is running on Vista Ultimate SP2 while the other one is running on XP Professional SP3. Both are running well especially the XP that has been used for many years already.
I have looked at Linux last year. while I find the GUI is almost similar to Windows, I am worried about the programs that may have problems running on it and therefore, I had to forget about it.
As for Mac or Apple, the cost of buying the computer it self is already more expensive and again, having to deal with compatibility issues when running Microsoft or Microsoft related software.
That is my opinion on this matter. Cheers!

I use Windows Vista. It is very fast and offers surprisingly good compatibility. My computer is used mostly for games, but also for school and other things like that. When buying a new computer off of Dell.com, Vista was the only available OS so i decided to use it, despite the numerous complaints I have heard about it. I have to say I am very happy with my new computer, and OS. Most games and other applications are made for Windows so I will stick with Microsoft forever.
