Think thumb or pacifier-sucking babies look cute?

Is it true that pacifiers and bottles can misalign teeth? Last week, when me and my 1 and a half yr old son accompany my husband to his check up, an old woman approached me when she saw my son sleeping with his pacifier. She then told me that I should have to stop my son using pacifier because it can affect his teeth and his speaking ability. Is this true? Appreciate your help very much. Thanks and have a nice day!

I know my sister sucked her thumb for many years, not sure how old she was when she stop, older than 10 I know that and she has perfect teeth. I thik it's just an old wise tale that some people still believe.

Pacifier didn't affect my teeth and speaking ability. I'm 29 years old and my mother told me that I used pacifier up to 2 years old and they told me that I only stop when they throw my pacifier. They tell that if they don't do that I will not stop using pacifier. So, even if it will not affect his teeth and speaking ability try to encourage him to stop on using pacifier. If not, you will be having hard time to control him on using the pacifier.

My son used a pacifier up until the age of about one year old. We weaned him off of it without too much of an issue. I think I have heard that children that suck on the pacifier or stay on the bottle too much or too long can end up with some dental problems. That lady that approached you could be onto something.
Of course you might still want to get some more opinions.
