thanksgiving

What will be on your table this thanksgiving? Here in the Philippines, some have gotten to celebrate thanksgiving. THey buy turkey in the supermarket but, if the turkey is expensive they use big chicken and prepare "Chicken Relleno' instead. Actually the spirit of thanksgiving is not in the food you serve but to thank Him for all the blessings.

I actually have never cooked a "traditional" Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. We don't like turkey, so we would eat ham instead if we did eat a traditional meal, but hams are also expensive. I can never really afford to buy all the stuff for a huge meal like that and it's just two of us, so it would just feel like a waste of time and food. Last year, I cooked beef stew for Thanksgiving. I haven't decided what I want to do this year. I might buy a small ham and do a small Thanksgiving meal with some green beans, mashed potatoes, and maybe a small dish of sweet potatoes with marshmallows because I like them, but my husband doesn't. I guess if you do a traditional meal, it doesn't have to be huge with tons of side dishes. For dessert, I might just do a frozen pumpkin pie. After all, I don't have to spend the entire day in the kitchen, right?

Our family has the traditional Turkey Dinner for Thanksgiving. But for Christmas we chang it up going with a different theme every year. Last year we did an Italian Christmas which included everyone bringing their favorite Italian Dish. This year we are doing Mexican dishs for Christmas. Our family doesn't really care for the Turkey dinner and we have it on Thanksgiving and that is enough. Once a year is all we can eat of it! LOL
