I am trying to think of an example where this may have happened to me, but apart from getting rejected as a member of the Woman's Sychronized Swimming Team in 1989 I can't for the life of me seem to remember any? As for getting picked last, there was a simple mantra that everyone knew so this was never an issue for me either. Oh, the mantra? "Pick James last and he will kick your a@@!". It was VERY effective!

I do know Southpark, but I don't watch it often, no. But Cartman is definitely the right character to be making a statement like that! lol. Your own mantra sounds like ti will work a charm too SaintAnne and all you gotta do now is train others to remember it! Do I use a similar mantra approach with others today? Not exactly, no. But people that know me professionally especially, are expecting ME to do the team picking, so it isn't even an issue anymore! lol.

Dude! The mantra is kickin'! Do you still hear it in your head a lot years later? I want mine to be "Don't make SaintAnne's day and you will pay." There was this guy in the US who wanted to go to the Olympics for Synchronized Swimming. Even though he was good, I don't think he was made to represent.
Do you watch Southpark? Your mantra reminds me of Cartman.

We, bulldozers, should stick together. Is that even possible?

Not since 4th grade. That would have been the baseball cuts at recess. I was not a strong hitter or runner then, as I hadn't had my growth spurt. All the kids in my class were bigger, so when we lined up to be chosen I would be embarrassed to be among the last. That is ok, I got even in the spelling bees, and went on to be captain of the girl's soccer team in HS. Then I got to do the picking and made a point of sometimes choosing a skinny girl. We won every game anyway because the other team captain was not loved by her team. They just weren't motivated.

I think we all need to go through the other side of an experience just so we could learn and empathize more with those that are now in the same boat as we once were.

Hi there Saint Anne. It has happened to me when i was in high school. I wanted to join our first ever class Counter Strike (3d shooter game) team that we had and the leader of my class at this game did not want to pick me as he could not stand me as a person (neither could i stand him, but that's another story). I managed to get in however after going with the 5th member chosen and another few high school members that were also going to play in the tournament and we played at an internet cafe and after i kicked their buts they talked for me with the leader and persuaded him to take me in the team. As a result of my good skill i managed to help them get into the semi-finals.

I remember Counter Strike. Didn't play it but remember it! You have the classic "hero" movie story. Good thing the leader decided to eat his words and pride and let you in, otherwise, they wouldn't have made it to the semi-finals. Thanks for sharing, elitess.

doesnt this just remind you of when you were young and in gym at school when the teacher picked two kids and told them to pick their teams? i was usually last or close to it. i was never an athletic person and didnt do well in sports (i am much more of a creative person than a sports one). but oh well, i dont think that they do this anymore (thankfully, as my kids dont have suffer like i did!)

Hello cher. I am still not that familiar with US gym in high school. I only managed to experience three months of it in middle school. I was an overachiever when I was in high school so I always got picked or will make them pick me.
But Boyfriend and I have talked that whenever we have kids, we are not going to force them into whatever it is that they do not want to do. We will let them try sports, arts or whatever it is that they are interested in. Thank you so much for your reply and I sure wish I was more of a creative person too.
